Coming up on Feb. 11th, The Rice Valley Tandem Rally (http://www.chicovelo.org/ricevalley.html).
Anyone planning on doing this one? I'm not riding a tandem, but I'll be there. Evidently wheel-suckers are welcome. :D
I did it last year, and it is a flat, scenic ride, and a good choice for "1st" century of the new season. I'm planning on going unless the weather is crap - see you there!!

I'll be looking for rides like this next year when my muscles have become conditioned to my new bike.
um... what's a wheel sucker?

When you grab someone's wheel and draft without taking a turn at pulling, you're a wheel-sucker (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/gloss_w.html#wheelsucker). Since this ride is a tandem rally, us singles are more or less going to be wheel-suckers. At least, if we're smart...... :D
Last year on this ride, I was cruising along at about 16mph all by myself and was overtaken by 4 tandem's in a pack. Without any additional effort on my part, my cruising speed went up to 19mph. I've been in a pace line or two in my time, but I never got sucked up in a vacuum like that in my life.
It was a very pleasant 10 miles. :D
