Define "play".
I own a tennis racquet.
I like go to the Y and hit the ball back and forth across the net with a family member.
Every once in a while I play with someone who actually knows how to hit the ball and I am reminded that I do not actually know how to play tennis.
Someday I will take lessons.:D :D

I remember having tennis balls in the spokes of my wheels..
Does that count?

I severely lack practice. And my racquet is too big.

Nope. Legit.
But, by saying you "lack practice," that clearly means you were good at some point.

No, it just means I was better than I am now. As in I could hit the ball over the net, in the general direction I wanted it to go. For about two shots per point.

I played a whole lot of tennis during my jr.high/high school years, and still play recreationally. I'd be more than happy to hit some with you, although I must warn you that my "playing recreationally" probably means once every few months. (Please - no jokes about smacking hairy balls around . . .) :p

played from childhood through highschool and tournament level after. i belonged to local clubs for a few years, but not anymore. the novelty of playing against people on a list hanging in a pro shop wore off fast. i have some friends who play...sometimes. i still play, but not nearly at the level i did ten years ago.
what's up?

I used to play occasionally, but realized how hard it was on the joints and decided to stick with low impact sports. Of course, I now have a knee injury from climbing the Santa Monica Mountains, but that's life.

Nobody has any idea what you're talking about, including me. :p
voltman, I played tennis in high school, playing decent JV-level tennis. The thinking and tactics I was fine with. But I never had any discipline for training. Just like my cycling, I guess. When I turned 16 and started driving, my athletic abilities and sporting interests all went downhill until after college, when my sporting interests came back to life with kart racing and then my athletic abilities started to rebound with cycling.

I remembered Jimmy Connors used a T-2000 almost 40 years ago, I'm getting old:(

If you're asking these questions, you probably need a new bike to distract you.

I played small college tennis back east...about equivalent to a mediocre HS in SoCal. Played tournaments and club level for years. When something hurt I took Advil...then Advil didnt work. After playing the HMO game for about a year I finally went to the Ortho...Verdict...wrist and shoulder joint of a 70 year old...Thus after a fling on skates ( you DONT want to hear about Senior Hockey)...I took up cycling. I can still hit the forehand but my serve and backhand are gone. I could get my wrist fused and I would have a great volley...Dont laugh guys have done it to keep playing

Me and any sports involving balls dont get along. Cant catch a baseball or dribble a basketball to save my life. I probably could hit a tennis ball just dont ask to be accurate.

I played quite a bit (recreational) while in high school and want to play now. But alas, you're on the wrong side of the country.

No, but I really like tennis players, especially ones who knock their fuzzy yellow spheres out of the court. I save one or two a week and give them to Golden Retrievers. One of my Mottos is: GOD IS IN HEAVEN AND ALL IS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD WHEN A GOLDEN RETRIEVER HAS A TENNIS BALL IN ITS' MOUTH
The owners seem so delighted when you offer their dog a clean new tennis ball.

Can we include racquetball in this thread... Much faster pace than tennis and always a joy to avoid getting hit with blue balls.
