Howdy all,

I just got my new ride on friday. I ended up with a Stmpjumper.

I am looking for a replacement saddle for it, the stock BG they have on, it's killing me kiester! Has anyone used a soft tail? I was at the performance bike shop in San Diego last week and it seemed like it would be better.

Saddles are a very personal choice when it comes to selecting one. What I may like you may not personally like. I recommend that you go out and try a few nice saddles. You have a nice bike and it should be comfortable when you are using it.

Right now I ride the 2002 Specialized Sworks on my main road bike. Very comfortable seat and the breakin in it isn't too long. Quite stiff however. I have also ridden multiple Selle Italia saddles such as the SLR and Flite Max. All of these seats are within reasonable price, except for the Sworks which I happened to get a kickass deal on.

Does the shop you bought the bike from have a policy on seats? they may take it back, and give you a deal on your new one, its always worth a try, and the worst thing is, that they say no.

I wasnt entirely in love with my BG saddle either, I have a CODA / Selle Italia, that I spent $10 on, it was in the cast off bin, but I like it!

If you haven't been riding in awhile, EVERY seat is gonna be a killer.

You need to build some butt cauloses. Instead of a long ride every weekend, go out every night and ride around the neighborhood for about 20-30 mins. You'll have "cheeks of steel" in no time.

One thing you definately don't want to do is go with the foam jobs you'll see at walmart. They feel neat on your fingers, and good on your butt at first, but a long ride will be far worse than any seat. I'll second what a2 said, give it a few rides and you'll be very happy with it. The stumpjumper comes with Specialized's new saddle, and it really is a pretty good one. Everyone I know with it has been very happy. A few rides and you'll be shrugging the bumps off like your tail was made of steel.
