I just changed from the 6500 to the 6501 Flight Deck (odo input, 4 bikes, etc). After I programmed the computer with chain ring and cassette information I installed on the mount and tested it out.

The graphic chain ring and cog display came up but I did not see a visual number like on the 6500 (2-4 second chain ring - fourth cog) when I was shifting gears. It showed all my gear changes (on the visual display) and the gear ratios. Does the 6501 not show the visual number anymore or did I miss program it?

Also, I was under the impression that it had auto-start and wake up features which don't work either. I had to press the start button to get it to work and the unit did not wake up automatically. I had to press the "b" button on the back of the unit to wake it up. Guess it would of been nice if a manual came with the thing.

I also have both the 6500 and 6501. The 6501 does not show you the relative gear numbers and ratios anymore. It now displays tooth count (eg 53-17... 53 front, 17 rear). I personally don't care too much about the gear numbers (I can look at the little gear bubbles for that information) but I do miss the ratios. Actually I would have liked them to have displayed gear inches instead of ratios.

It does have auto-start but you have to enable the autostart feature. Toggle over to the TIM display and press the ST/STP button. The km/mile indicator in the upper left should start flashing even if you're not moving.

BTW, if you're interested in the entire manual (english portion), read this:

And yes the "new and improved" power-save feature forces you to manually wake the unit up. Apparently too many people complained about their computer waking inadvertantly... probably the ones with bikes attached to a car rack with its front wheel spinning freely in the wind as they travel down the expressway.

Thanks so much for all the information! I couldn't have asked for anything more. I used to live in Seattle too. My house was in Mill Creek. Where do you live?

I live in Sammamish. However I used to live in Bothell. My favourite bike shop was and still is Bothell Ski and Bike. I go to more local shops for smaller stuff but all my major purchases go to them. I'm good friends with the owners and staff now and am supposed to go riding with them today if I can get past my flaming eye from when I scratched it trying to get my contacts out a couple of days ago.
