Are there any good books on training older athletes? Say about the ages of 45 and higher? Thanks.

Yeah, great, I'm 26 months from "elderly".

I think that either carmichael or "serious cycling" have a section for older riders.

I think the big differences are reduced max heart rate and longer recovery times.

:roflmao: I was referring to "older" not "old" athletes. I guess my sight of an athlete in their prime is under 35 . . . (which I haven't seen for some time now.:cry:)

You should check out my club...

The fastest in the club turns 45 in a year or so. Several of the fastest are about that age as well. We have one guy who will be 71 this year, who will ride this year's Paris-Brest-Paris (1200 km/745 sm in under 90 hours).

And I might add that the average age on the PBP in 2003 was 49 years old!

uh the guy who paced and passed a bunch of training for the big race jocks that i remember most was 70. he passed us like we where standing still. all we could see was the bumper sticker on his bent that said "you have just been passed by a 70 year old"
