Hi,

I have SKS Matrix Zoom pump, but now I have realised that I can pump with it only 3 bar.


Can I pump tyres a bit more, if I change valves to presta type?

BTW, my tyre size tire size is 26x1.95.

Please help

Umm...what? what is the psi on the tire and what is currently in there. And what the heck is 3bar.

its a suspention design that doesnt isolate the peddles...

Its actually 3times Barometric pressure, I think 3 bar is 45lbs or so?
1 bar is close to 14lbs if I remember...

edit, I goofed, 1 bar = 14.5 psi, so 3 bar is 43.5 psi, that is respectible for a mountain tire.

As far as presta tubes? I dont thing that it would make a difference. whethier or not the valve was different, the pump is going to deliver a max of 3 bar. if thats what I have heard you say.

Presta valves are miserable. If there is an advantage to them I'm not aware of it.

Presta valves require a smaller hole in the rim...Easier to inflate with a hand pump because there is no spring...built in valve cap...


Maelstrom, are you drilling your rims for schrader valves?

No my original rims came with presta and I never had anything but problems so I have never switched back. All of my rims comes with the hole drilled for schrader :)

Mine came presta too, what a pain. Every bike shop I asked to slime the tires told me they'd have to drill for shrader and put a new tube in it. My guage doesn't work on them, my pump doesn't work on them, my inflator doesn't work with them, and I can't slime them. A tough sell at best.

Dumb question, but are your pump and gauge cycling specific? Schrader is usually used on low-end rims/kids bikes nowadays.

Pump is cycling specific, my frame pump that is. Doesn't fit it. Guage is not. There is just no reason for me to use Presta. I stand to gain nothing by it. If I'm in a hurry, I'll use an inflator. The speed gained pumping on a presta valve is obsolete compared to an inflator, regardless of valve. (it doesn't use 12g CO2 carts)
