Hi to all. This is my foray into the word of forums. I am in my second season of triathlon and love the country roads around Charlotte.

Welcome to BF! :)

Be sure to check out the Southeast Regional Discussion forum, and look for the "Charlotte area riders" thread. We're all posting the areas where we ride, in case anyone wants to ride together. And be sure to check out the Foo forum. A number of us CLT riders hang out there, and there's a lot of fun and socializing outside of cycling.

welcome softride!
a fellow rider, from my last tour (2004) was from your area. he was a well seasoned tourer with 30+ years of self-cotained adventures.
he made some alarming comments about the car/truck drivers in and around your town. do drivers "share the road" there? are you a road rider?
i would like to hear another perspective of this "southern hospitality".
thanks, and again welcome aboard!
tomg in s nj. (parents were from athens and elberton, georgia. not far from you!)

I ride both on the roads an the greenway in the University area and have had few issues with the drivers. My long rides are mostly in Cabarrus County which is rural road in good shape. Aside from the free roaming dogs, I have been pleased with the area

I think there's a 9am Saturday ride from Harrisburg Elementary School, though I'm not sure about that. Never been on it. Yet.

I ride mostly on #49, north of the university area. What's the greenway like? I've never been on it, though it's practically in my backyard!

Welcome to the forum. I lived in the University area from 1999 to 2003, but relocated to NJ for work. Sure do miss it down there. I used to do alot of mtn. biking on the University trails, although I hear they have mostly disappeared due to expansion of UNCC. They were fun and usually pretty quiet.

As far as Charlotte drivers go, I now live in NJ, so I guess I'm used to it all. Welcome.

The greenway is short maybe 4 miles on the section we ride and turns from paved to cinder to gravel but it gets me across 85 and 49 without the traffic. The bridge shoulders are full of trash
