Mountain Biking - Help, my brakes squeak like hell

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hello, i recently got a new pair of front XT parallel push brakes. They worked great for a bit, and then recently they squeak like crazy. They squeak so loud it hurts my ears. I know they are adjusted right, pads are alighned correctly and the pads are not rubbing the rim. ?

Typical problem with those brakes. You can switch to red Kool Stop pads, and get a brake booster, that should kill it.
Ill try that, is it unusal for a brake booster on the front? Thanks
No I use a booster on the front, however I do use Magura HS 33's so it is neccesary. However there is a Avid model that incorporates a booster both front and rear. XT paralellel push brakes are infamous for this kind of like Cannondale creak's.

I would look at them closely, listen carefully to realize what makes the noise! If it's a material, you might try to sand the surface of the brakes. If it doesn't help, and like you have mentioned, everything is properly adjusted, then your only choise is either changing the brake pads to another material, or trying using different rims...
Nothing complicated here...
P.S. To identify noises better, you could try spraying water to see how noise changes.
Good luck.

Just as a bit of information, a friend had XT brakes, he returned them because the shop could not stop the squeel. I dont know if that is an option in your case, but In his case, he did trade up to XTR's so maybe that was the motivator.
Yea i got the brakes as an employee purchase as i work at the shop, so i dunno, ill see what i can do
Are the shoes toed correctly?
I've seen more posts lately about squeeling XT brakes in past few weeks, then in the past year. Could a defective batch of them got out?

When they first came out, I was still working in a shop and they had to send us dozens of shim kits for the brakes. Seemed the break in was pretty harsh on them. I think I've got two shim kits on my front brakes and they're fine. Don't know if they have something like that available for the newer stuff, but call your sales rep and see what's up.
wow, first thread I click on answers one of my very own questions. I think I am going to like it here.
Thanks already.
