So, yesterday I seen Quicksilver for the first time. The bicycle trick/stunt scene was pretty cool to watch. From the looks of it, it seemed that Kevin Bacon's bike was a fixed gear though there were many times when he was coasting; however there were no brakes on the bars. Do you think he was using a coaster brake set-up or just a show thing for the movies? . . .

yeah yeah yeah i know its just a movie but come on... It's a continuity error. One moment he's on a fixed gear but next he coasts. Last time I checked you *can't* coast on a fixed gear bicycle. I just saw the trailor of the movie on youtube.com and there are scenes which clearly show that 1) he coasts and 2) he has a brake.

Grammariffic.

Actually in most housing projects around here, the correct way to saying that (as agreed by the majority) is "I seen."

2) he has a break.

what, like a lunch break? smoke break? prison break?

Whoops, sorry about that. This is what I get for going straight to bike forums right after waking up.

What continuity? This movie can't even decide what city it's in.

That NY business is my point. There are scenes like look like NYC to me, yet there are others where you can see signs for the Bay Bridge, yet his folks in the suburbs have east-coast accents, yet they race SF, and he works in the stock exchange? Any stock exchange hot-shot at that time would be in NY, despite the pacific exchange. And his (and the girlfriend's) attempt at an accent definitely points east. IMDB's goofs page says it's supposed to take place in NY. You know, the New York with its own Coit Tower.

When people are angry that Quicksilver was obviously filmed in SF yet is supposed to take place in NY it makes me go like this: "AH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA."

I love that ****in movie.

I don't think anybody's angry... just not taking it seriously and scoffing at the lack of continuity.

Hey, it worked in "Breaking Away", ground's been broke.

What I want to know is how many of you are going to secretly watch that Ashlee Simpson bike messenger movie just so you can see how bad it will be.

Judging from the music, the actors, the clothes, and the fact there's this totally irrelevant scene in the movie, I'd say Quicksilver came out in 1986-88.

BTW Jessica Simpson is in it not her little sister, Ashlee.

those ARE coaster brake bikes. and they ARE SUPPOSED TO BE coaster brake bikes.
there are tons of threads on this exact topic, if you really want to know more about it, search for those threads. (keywords breaking away will probably bring up more than enough)
