i only did that once, dude.
I grew up in the Bronx. Gunhill Road to be exact. My parents still live up there, so I ride up some weeknights and almost every Sunday for a home cooked pasta dinner. I've had all the sh*t jobs a Bronx kid should have....Bronx Zoo, Yankee Stadium and collecting shopping carts at K-Mart in Bay Plaza. Ahh the good ole days.

yeah, close to the hunts' pt stop on the 6, but even closer to the 2/5.
yo monsterkids - a real cool band called Optimus Prime has a song called Gun Hill Road... i know the bassist - he lives in LA.
Born and bred. Grew up in throgs neck. Westchester Ave. East Tremont. BX 40. The good old neighborhood. Even though I don't live there anymore, I still find myself visiting the streets just for ol times sake. Skated almost every neighborhood there in the mid to late eighties.

That's pretty rad I'll have to check them out! Is the band originally from here? On a side note Nick's Pizza on Gun Hill is some of the best pizza in NYC and Ljubos Pizza on the square serves a gigantic slice.
thatz scary ^^
happened during Rumble Through da Bronx. Boots was right in front of me and a couple of guys were standing beside the street acting like they were gonna push people off their bikes, then some guy comes running off the sidewalk and swings a driver at Boots. it hit his front wheel and headtube but boots managed to keep going. his bike seemed fine but his wheel was a bit outta true.
i used to ride in the bronx a lot when i lived at 200th st in manhattan and worked at a school in the bronx. now i live down in brooklyn so i don't get up there really. i love riding in the bronx though.

woah.
exception to the rule, though. i've found the Bronx to be the friendliest borough i ride in (all of them except that funny little island down there filled with police officers and their families).
That's pretty nuts. I've never had a problem in the BX. I've had spoiled kids in Astoria driving their parents' BMW yell,"Get a car" but that's about it.

haha yeah, i've never had any trouble riding in the bronx other than seeing that.
i did take students to the courthouse one day though and the trial we saw was for some guy who pulled a hit and run on a delivery guy. the guy only spoke spanish so my students translated and kept going "he's lying! you can tell he's full of it!" and making noises whenever they thought he was lying about not noticing he hit the guy. i had to give em my serious teacher glare before they got in trouble.

Their pizza's are freaking huge! Only other place was Fordham and the Concourse. I used to go visit the old italian guy that own a shop near the Square. Riding from 184th and the Concourse that was in 1988-89.
I went to the pizza shop by Weschester Sq recently (Sept 06) same pizza same price for 20 yrs!

Yeah, that old guy no longer is there. The last time I heard his son took it over with some asian guy. That shop was what started the love affair with exotic Italian frames, track frames and road frames. That shop was so old school it was straight off the boat from the old country. I can still remember the beautiful frames he had in there. That place was like having an oasis in the middle of the desert.
I was born and raised in the Bronx... left after 48 years.
There is no Pizza like Bronx Pizza.
This past summer I ran into the old man who had the Pizza Shop where I grew up, in the shop at the neighborhood I last lived in.
He actually remembered me.
I heard him telling his friend, the shop owner where I was eating at, that I use to buy pizza from his shop when I was a piccolino. I am not Italian but I knew what he was saying.
I make my own pizza at home using organic ingredients and soy cheeses.
The last Pizza I had that reminded me of the old days was over a year ago in a shop off of 57th st and 2nd ave.(or 1st ave). Excellent.
Sorry for going off topic. Just made me a little homesick, but not for NYC, just the experiences. :)
You guys ever hit up the little pizza spot on one of those sneaky dead blocks near Fordham U? Large pie and a pitcher of beer for less than $20 and they clang a gong when your pizza is ready. I ride up there some summer nights from Astoria just to hit that place up.

Pugsley's Pizza. The owner is named Sal and he is a legend at Fordham U. One of the specials up there, the Sheila Special, is named after a friend of mine. I go there a lot in the winter b/c I go to Fordham hoops games.
monsterkidz, a ride there from Queens in the summer sounds awesome though. I'd be up for that at some point.

I'm down. Just keep me posted. Are you in Astoria too?

Nope. I am out in Forest Hills, right across the highway from Flushing Meadow Lake, but I have to cut through Astoria to get to the Triboro.
