Anyone what to find a frozen pond and put the studded tires to use?

hey, i'm moderately interested, but know nothing about ice safety and am a bit leary due to the warm "pre-winter" we had here. but none the less, my studs do feel so useless now. if your iceology skills are strong, we could see if 106 studs are enough to keep me upright. peace

I am in Brookline, right up the street. I don't know of any places around town, but we could head north or find a frozen swap closer to home. I have ridden some large, deep lakes in CT, but only after talking with the local ice fisherman. Let's investigate where to go and I will drive. I am free on Sunday, Feb 11th.

Hey, I live in Brookline too.
I don't think anywhere nearby will have ice thick enough for safety until mid-february, and only if the weather keeps up. Certainly you could go north and west and find something, but I don't know offhand of a good place.

I just posted on the Winter forum, asking for a good ice biking local. If something shows I will relay it here and hope a few more riders from Boston join.

psht, ponds? the Charles is right there...
I don't have studded tires unfortunatly, but there are a few ponds that could be good targets; I'd bet Spy pond right off the minuteman path (not far from Alewife) would work. Haven't been by there lately though.

It has not been very cold for very long. I think it's a bad idea right now.
In some conditions you can ride on a frozen pond without studs. Typically when the ice is very thick, because it has been cold for a long tiime, and it is a warm sunny day and the top of the ice is not super hard. 25 psi helps a lot.
