BMX - Haro SX pro or SR 20?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. i went to some bike shops this weekend and found two bikes i really like...Haro SX Pro and Haro SR 20. The Sx pro is $430 and the sr 20 $280. Then i looked at the specs. and only a few things are different. The forks(sx-chromoly race, sr-chromoly), the handlebars(sx-chromoly race, sr-chromoly), cranks(sx-truvativ race cranks. sr-chromoly), and the rims(sx-sun rhynolite,sr-haro)...is the SX Pro worth the $150 more than the SR 20?
here's the SX Pro

true...i need a racing bike
He's racing, not freestyle. If i had the extra money i would buy the SX Pro, also is there a big weight difference?

the weight difference between the two bikes is like a pound....I think
Ehhh, i would just go with the SR, not really big difference and you can always spend the extra money on upgrades :)

but the cranks on the sx pro are a lot better....and i talked to my dad today and he said that 6061 aluminum(SR 20) is stronger than 7075 alum.(Sx Pro) and he's a welder and works with that stuff a lot

WRONG, 7075 is stronger

okay...how do you know...i'm not being rude i'm just wondering
FitRider 921

It's a well-known fact that 7075 aluminum is stronger in most aspects compared to 6061. A 7075 sprocket is in most aspects, stronger than a 6061 sprocket.

Sprockets my good man. I have bent several 6061-T6 Aluminium but so far have bent no 7075-T6 ones. Also, my Dad is a metalurgist (sp?) and I have asked him the very same question, 'which is stronger?'. 7075 is used on Aircrafts (random fact for you there)

This is also why i'm wondering why Odyssey are making the Million Dollar sprockets out of 7075 but the guards out of 6061

Make you buy more guards.

Good point. Are they out in America yet?

So you don't destroy the rails and copings that you hit with it, thus giving BMX'ers a bad name or making parks suck?

Yes, for the most part, we get everything first.

Eh, everyone else can deal. The next thing you know, there will be plastic sprockets.
On the other hand, that's not such a bad idea...

The only thing that can be bought for .50 in this world is a cheap, AIDS infected, and STD-filled, hooker... and your intelligence.

6061-T6 is aircraft grade as well. Strength is relative, which is why different materials are used for different applications. Your sprocket sees different stresses than your frame.

That's what I said Ex-man.

My mom said that the money doesn't really matter because she just wants me to get a good bike that will last for a while and i was wondering if the SX Pro is worth the $180 extra

If you work for your money, then it's just up to you to decide if the extra money is worth working that much more... It feels better than bumming money off your parents too.

You're just not a parent yet. If my kids apply themselves in school, keep the house tidy, and basically try to be good people, I have no trouble spoiling them a bit. But I won't reward bad behavior.
And I'm a good dad, just a bit tough on them. My daughter didn't want to pick up all the apples in our backyard, but she had her hand out for some pocket money. No worries. I paid the kid next door to clean up the apples, and my daughter learned a valuable lesson: Someone will always be willing to do the job if they don't, and they'll take her pay.
Both my daughters wanted new stereos for their rooms. I had enough cash to buy one god one, or two cheap ones. I suggested they wait a week, so that I could get them both something decent. But they were impatient, and wanted cheap Walmart ones instead. I suppose the best thing I could have done was make them wait, but they're happy with the weak, tinny sound. Lesson: Don't let your impatience compromise quality.

I do pretty much whatever my mom tells me to but sometimes she has to tell me twice. Then if I don't do it she grounds me. Which I hate so I normally just do what she says the first time. But that doesn't answer my question...is the SX Pro worth the $180 more than the SR 20?
Im really not sure, so im sorry for that. I have a paperroute now so i work for my own money like $150 a month for 15 minutes a day.

Sometime this month, I don't know when though...oh yeah i forgot, i finally figured out what model my DYNO is, it's a VFR
Thats cool, have you found out what year? Also have you decided what model, i would go with the SR 20 because then you can spend the extra $180 upgrading later on when you need new parts.

but if I get the SX Pro i wouldn't need to get new parts except maybe handlebars like FMF Powermoto, S&M Medium, S&M Small Slam, or S&M Small Race
Im saying your SR 20, isnt going to need parts for a while so then once they get old and you want new parts you have $180 to spend. Your eventually gonna want to upgrade the SX 20 too!

definitely go with the pro. I have a sx comp and it is very similar, but mines better due to the xtr brakes. Don't get the SR it looks to have a 3 piece crank. You want the ISIS for racing man. Trust me save up and you'll be happier with the sx pro. Overall, it is a better bike. Plus it has Full Speed Ahead cranks. And then save up some more and upgrade your brakes and put on a carbon fork. Then some aluminum handlebars that thing will be light. Then if you want to go all out get carbon seatpost, some good pedals, you know you'll have a bmx racing bike that you can flaunt.

Three piece cranks aren't a bad thing... you'll break one-pieces.

good suggestions but I'm looking to spend like $800 for a bike and parts...by the way, how much are FSA cranks?
minichamp31
02-04-07, 07:52 PM
Carbon forks?
Like Bombshells or Answer Scythes...both $249.99, or something like that
minichamp31
02-04-07, 07:54 PM
The SX Pro doesn't have FSA cranks...they have TruVativ XR alloy race cranks
Then if your mom pays for it just buy the SX. Put pictures up when you buy either.
