I have a Strida 3.2, bought from eBay recently.
Would like to eventually get a Strida 5. Anyone bringing them into the USA yet?
You have to buy from a bike shop in Taiwan (or elsewhere in asia, but taiwan will be the cheapest since that is where the bikes are manufactured). I'm in the middle of finding out what the shipping cost will be. I'll let you know once I find out.

Partial upgrade might be possible. New bottom tube and cranksett/BB is most of it. New wheels not worth it as I do not think it has a gear box. On the other hand you might be able to sell you current strida and buy a new one.
A new 3.2 Bottom tube runs $60 wo fittings, as an example. Strida does not really try to screw you on parts.
The Strida web site has 2 -> 3 upgrade kits. I think they also had a trade in scheme.

I'd be inclined to sell my current one and buy a replacement, but I'd want to see some reviews first showing there really is some improvement in rideability, maintenance, etc...

Nah, the new BB is welded to the rest of the frame.
Just the bottom end? Probably not worth doing. What about disc brakes though? Anything else?
The major upgrades are the new metal bottom bracket (welded to the frame and designed to effect belt tensioning), metal crankset, metal wheels, more comfortable seat+handlebars+brake-levers, and disc brakes. I think the dimensions are slightly tweaked as well.

Seat looks the same in the pictures. My strida has the metal wheels. The disk brakes make sense as they seem to use standard parts. But, I wonder if I would not be better off with the old wheels.
It looks like a bottom tube upgrade would be possible, and in the past they have offered upgrades.
Also will the plastic Strida 3 become a "classic"?
Will this bring a mass market belt drive bike closer? It seems like it would be possible for Brompton.

I don't know. I just saw it advertised somewhere. Maybe the Strida 3.3 (the one with metal wheels) also has a different seat from the Strida 3.2 (plastic wheels)?

Forget about the Strida 5 if it ever gets here, I'm sure you'll have to pay twice the price of your Ebay bike. Remember, don't get caught up in the bike every six months syndrome. Use up your new bike and get a new one when this one breaks which may takes years!
