Bicycle Mechanics - Wheel set

I needed to change a free wheel on my bike, but as soon as I had the unit off I came to realise the bearing casing was damaged aswell. I've decided to buy a new rear wheel now instead! It has an eight speed cassette. Would anyone have any suggestions on a good set-up?

And by the way its for downhill!

It sounds like you found damage to your freehub body?

What kind of hub are you using? You can often replace just the freehub body.

New wheelset is kind of overkill, but there are plenty of threads beating that decision to death, so I'd start with a search.

Might that happen to be a Formula rear hub? If that's the case, I'd go for a whole new rear wheel too. An XT hub with a Rhyno lite rim might be up to what you're doing without breaking the bank.

I spotted those on wheelworld alright and the hubs on it are shimano parallax, I never heard of them before! And are Mavic X221's any good I had spotted them aswell! And one last thing I was thinking of getting a set of Marzocchi '06 MZ-3s what would you say about those?

Well I had heard of simano but not the parrallax model!

Parrallax refers to the shape of the hub shell, I believe. It's a term applied to deore, deore lx, and deore xt hubs (and others probably) so parrallax isn't the name of the hub, it's a feature.

221's are not for downhill applications!if you prefer Mavic rims try the Deemax or something.
