hi, we're bike mechanics at a shop without any real trained machanics working. (yikes!)
that aside, we got a trek cyclo-cross bike in this morning with a 40x52 chainring up front and a 11x28 7sp in the back. he had some broken "rsx?" (its rubbed off) shifters. so the question is can we put 7spd sora shifters on there or does a range like that require some sort of cross shifter?

I'm not a mechanic either :). To my knowledge there's no cross-specific shifter. What's the rear derailleur?

I'm not a mechanic, but I play one on a daytime soap opera.

Yup, 7 speed Sora will work since the cable throw between each click is the same. Most all cross bikes use road brifters with canti brakes.

7-speed Sora will work. They are double and triple specific for the front.
