I've posted an SOS message on our local craigslist site and it was suggested that asking for help here may be worth a shot. This link:

(the craigslist ad)
should pretty much spell out the problem. I've gone as far as contacting the person who had purchased the ATP stock after their liquidation, he has no seat stays in his remaining inventory.

Thanks in advance for any help on this,
K2

Not a frame expert, but my guess would be that a local fabricator could handle the job for a reasonable cost.

I've repaired this on two other bikes one was steel and the other alum. The crack is not unusual, started from the edge of the rack mounting holes. Take the part to any local welder and the part can be repaired. they can insert a tube inside the original to reinforce it after cutting the tube. You will loose the rack mounting bosses but if you need to mount a rack you can use P-clamps.

The framebuilders section (http://www.bikeforums.net/forumdisplay.php?f=229) would be a great place to start. There's some beautiful work going on in there.
It looks like the seat is supported on the sides, which would end up compressing the outside of the seat stays and stretching the insides, right where they're drilled for those fender bosses! I wouldn't think it's the end of the world for that frame, but maybe eliminating those drilled fender bosses and using clamps instead might prevent another identical repair years from now.

thanks, but that pretty much fell through. "framebuilders" apparently don't think to kindly of recumbents. It got pretty much ignored. Yes, if I can get this rebuit I would not have the rack bosses (I miss stated these as "fender" bosses) drilled back as original, this was definitely a design snafu that I wouldn't want to duplicate.

contact these guys. Their house brand bike is the Volae, it is based off of the Vision design. The seat stays may be compatable with your R44. They may even have a seat stay on hand from a Vision that will work too.

It sounds like they're used to having ready made parts to replace whatever, instead of creativity.

I completely forgot earlier, there's a whole mess of recumbent homebuilders at Bentrider Online (http://www.bentrideronline.com/messageboard)! Now those guys are creative.
