So in the spirit of non-intense social rides and get-togethers, I would like to propose a Day-After-St. Patty's-Day ride and BBQ on Sunday 3/18 afternoon/evening.
The Ride: A 37 mile loop starting from my house in La Jolla through Rancho Santa Fe, Encinitas and Del Mar. This is basically the same route as the San Diego Bike Club's casual "C" ride. About 2200 ft elevation according to RouteSlip. Not too long, not too short - just enough to justify an appetite for the BBQ.
The BBQ: At my house in La Jolla. I will feed you. Lot's of charred dead animals and other good stuff. You can bring whatever questionable St. Patrick's day beverages you want :D
Hopefully all you OC and LA BFers can make the trek down to SD. Sorry, I can't do anything about the location of my house.
Anyone up for this?
UPDATE: The official date of record for this bash has moved from the 17th to the 18th by popular acclaim. Those of you who cast a "No" vote on the poll because of date conflicts can hopefully attend. If you said no because you don't like people, well, I can't help you there

Wow!! This sounds like so much fun!! I have track races on the 10th and 24th, but the 17th might be open. I might bring a couple of non-BF track friends, too!! Keep this thread current, and keep us posted!!

Sounds fun. I may not be up for the ride, but I'd show up for the post-ride festivities :)

Dan, I love the idea but that is the date of the ride for Gretzky's friend who has cancer. I'm committed to riding that ride. But I think the idea is great! :)

I agree that it is a great idea! Any other day, and I'd be all over it.
But as Mary has mentioned, for me that is a very special day, set aside for a very good friend

Sorry I forgot about that ride. Would the 18th be better? Or when? I assume that no matter what date it is there will be conflicts, but I am more than happy to move the day if it works better for people.

Boy do I ever have a conflict EVERY ST. Pats. It is the anniversary of the first time for the wife and I and we were both virgins at the time. We always reserve that day for ;) .

Another Bump...
Indolent, may we combine this as a Tour de Femmes ride too? I am assuming it is kinder and gentler in terms of miles, etc. Also, just a tiny suggestion (:o) - perhaps you can start a new thread with the name, final date and all the details for this ride - including a participant list. That a way, it will stay more on the radar! :D

I'm pretty sure that I'm in for the charred dead animals...but not the ride. I'll have little people with me, we'll be at Balboa Park at the museums that morning. :)

I've never met any of you.. been kinda lurking... if I throw some road tires on my MTB for the ride and bring some New Castles (my fav.) and maybe another riding buddy would that be ok? oh and I can bring some chips or dip or whatever is needed.

:OK - As per M.E.'s suggestion, I will repost this soon with a list of confirmed/maybes etc to get a count on who is coming.
I will ride the proposed route this weekend to get an idea of relaxed-pace ride time. Which means jschen can't come so we don't get into another unintentional stupid male pace escalation :p . He is of course welcome at the actual event.

Hey, you're the one who started the pace escalation! I just didn't want to hold you up.

do ya think Ill be able to keep up on my mountain bike? :o My coworker thinks I won't be able to hang with roadies. I agree with him, but as long as the pace isn't a race I think I'll at least make it beck before dinner:cry:

There are roadies and there are roadies. Then there's us. Don't stress out.
