bike lighting for commuting?

Looking for opinions on lighting configurations and
types of lights good for commuting.
More concerned with safety/visibility and durability
than weight.

I have had 50 and even 100 watt headlights and no one commented. One cheapy $12.00 Xenon stobe for a tail-light and I get all positive comments from car drivers, police and even bus drivers. Mine uses about 1 watt and runs off of the headlights main 12 volt battery. GO XENON.

Great idea! School buses now have 360 degree strobes on their roofs for foggy days. I wonder if this would be legal?

Many posters in the Commuter forum complained about it giving out rather quickly, but mine has been OK for last 3 months. It's certainly going to give you visibility and uses only about 2 watts.

I use the Serfas CP-1000 package that has a 6 LED front light. The light is plenty bright for the dark and has a strobe feature if I just want to be seen. The rear light is very visible from a few blocks away and the battery life is amazing about as good as I've found. I've owned 2 of these sets and never been disapointed.

Check out Lupine Lights. Probally the Wilma series would be best for commuting, long burn times and very durable.
