Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

As I'm typing this I'm thinkin "what am I so proud of..?"

But anyways, here's my new bike rack. Started life as a regular PerformanceBike 2-bike rack/hangar.
But it was a little flimsy and not well padded.

So I added foam padding around potential contact areas, taped it black electrician tape (hard to see). Then took a couple of champagne corks, drilled a hole in it, slid a zip-tie through it and attached on the top so provide the padding and cushioning.

All in all, its been great because there's no other 'dead space' in my apt to ark my bike....except this spot above the stairwell...

Hope someone finds a useful nugget in this post. ;)

Thumbs up on using that space. A number of apartments have "wasted" storage space like that, and its nice to see it put to one of the best uses one can think of -- storage of one's steeds.

Thanks! I had my eye on that wasted space ever since I moved here :)

Wouldn't really call that out of the way. It's practically in the set of stairs.

Yes and no. Visibly its right there in your face all the time so it's not out of the way for sure.
But physically its out of the way, hovering way above the stair users, you really have to reach for it to touch/grab it. All in all it's really my only spot in the apt aside from the garage....

It looks strong & sturdy. I just hope it never fails or the railing never fails. That happens & your bike is toast.

DON"T EVEN SAY THAT !!!

..thinking of addint redundant safety cables maybe....(Right now the right side drop is over the railing so if the rack fails hopefull it will slow down the .....DON"T EVEN THINK THAT!!

Yeah. Instead of getting a scratch you will get total annihilation.
