Texas - Performance Bicycles in Austin

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
About a week or two ago, a Performance bicycles outlet opened in Austin on Anderson near Stein Mart... I don't have the numeric address, but its between Shoal Creek and Burnet Road, across the street from a Payless Shoes.
Its a double-edged sword. I've yet to check it out, but it should have some cool stuff and upgrades are upgrades. The bad thing is that there are already enough bike shops in that area. In less than a 1000 foot radius, you have Performance, Discovery Cycles, Nelo's Pro Cycles, Sports Authority, and Sun & Ski... that area is absolutely packed with them. I just hope none of the old shops are impacted by this. :(
This is my neighborhood. Lots of bikey folk around here. Five bike shops in three blocks, yay! Bikes for everyone!
I don't know about the others but I can definitely recommend Nelo's and Discovery for general mechanical work.

How could they not be? Maybe there's a reason that Performance chose that exact area?

I hope the service is better than the one in Fort worth. I have heard nothing but bad customer service from the Fort Worth store

And Bicycle Sport Shop is just around the bend on Braker. Not exactly "in the neighborhood", but still only about a five minute drive.

And how could we forget REI a couple of blocks from Bicycle Sports Shop, and Buck's Bikes just down the road in the other direction.
From the bike point of view, Northcross, Crestview, North Allandale, Far West, Northwest Hills, Arboretum, Jollyville Road, Gateway and Balcones Woods all merge into one giant bicycle friendly zone.
