First bike ever with presta valves, and yes I still hate them, lol. I screwed the adapters on, pushed the
air chuck onto them and nothing? No air would pass through the valves at all. Do you have to do anything special like "unlock" them first or something? Or are these frozen and I need new tubes?,,,,BD
Yes I still hate them, I really don't see how they're superior aside from being narrow for skinnier rims.
You have to unscrew the little nut at the top to open the valve.

Did you first 'unscrew' the tip of the presta valve before putting the adapter over them? Unlike your 'normal' schrader valve, you need to physically open the top of the presta valve.

Take the adapter off, loosen the nut, put the adapter on, fill the tube, take the adapter off, tighten the nut, put the adapter back on. Correct? ;) Seems like a lot of trouble to me, lol. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it!:D,,,,BD

You might find that you could cut out one of the steps by not using the adaptor. Then the process would be "Unscrew the nut, fill the tube, tighten the nut". In fact, that cuts out 2 of the steps! That'll be £400 for one hour of process improvement consultancy (min charge).

Yep, you have the method down there. I believe the idea is that if you have the presta valve closed, air cannot leak out as quickly, as it can in the 'spring loaded type' valve that is in schrader valves.
This is of course assuming you have a pump with a presta tip on it. That will be an additional 50 pounds sterling!

I like presta valves for aesthetic reasons........to me, they're what belong on a bicycle. Compared to presta valves, schraeder valves look clunky in my opinion-

Presta valves are darn near impossible to fill to correct PSI with a frame pump I find! But I like how they look over schraeders, also.

Occasionally you’ll run into a sticky valve which requires that you give it a tap. So the process would be: 1) remove adapter; 2) open valve; 3) tap valve enough to release a burst of air; 4) replace adaptor; 5) pump tire; 6) remove adaptor; 7) tighten valve; 8) replace adaptor; 9) ride bicycle. Nine easy steps to joyful riding!:)
Yes, we can not forget the all important tap!

Actually I can save you a couple of steps even if you DON'T have a presta compatible pump. Don't store the adapter on the valve. store it with the pump, or in your bag with your patch kit. then the steps would be:
5. tighten nut
ALthough it looks like a lot it doesn't take significantly longer than on a schrader valve:
1.remove valve cap
3.install valve cap
how long do you spend removing and installing a valve cap? if it takes you 10 seconds total you are slow. It shouldn't take you 5 seconds to loosen and tighten the presta nut, so we are talking an extra 5 seconds for a very slow person.

My Olympian and I thank you. I got the dry rotted tires aired up, rotated the bars up ever so slightly, and raised the seat another half inch. Rides like a dream!! The tubes must be original, what a finicky bunch of junk, lol. I think they had not been moved in quite a while. Also my first bike with 700 tires. One of the first times I DIDN'T have a spare set to fit a bike.,,,,BD
