Triathlon - Caad 5 road frame

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I know this has been beaten to death but I cannot seem to find the answer I need so here goes. Has any one converted a road frame to a tri bike with full aero bars and forward seat post? Ifso any handling issues and comfort issues on international and half distances? I have been using shorty bars with standard seatpost for a while and have been told my run time will improve if I get more forward in relation to the bottom bracket. I am looking to totally convert my CAAD5 road frame with a 73 headtube and 73.5 seat tube to a full tri configuration. But , if its only a compromise and not a solution I will leave it in road configuration. Opinions?
Couple points ...
if you find the handling over-twitchy once the bike is tri-ized, you could get a fork with less rake
and/but/however, there are plenty of nice older tri frames on ebay for less than $200 ... I got a Cervelo Eyre for well under that, and there were (might still be) some nice Klein Aeolus going for $180 or so.

The handling was a concern . I tried a fork with low rake on an old road bike and it made it very tight . That may be the thing to make this work.

It might just be best to keep the bike a roadie and add mini aero bars....just a thought
Also if you can ride in the drops comfortably, you'll be just as good as half the riders on aero bikes with bad form.

Yea, Im riding short aero bars now, not a problem in sprint events. Need to get a better position for the longer events to save my legs for the run.
