Classic & Vintage - I am destined never to try clipless

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've had 2 pairs of Look and 1 pair Campag look compatible pedals floating around for ages, and wanted to try clipless. So, I bought a cheap set of shoes on eBay, and ordered the red cleats from Wiggle (I guessed that having float would be preferable for a beginner).

It's been 10 days since I bought the shoes and at last they arrived today. They were exactly what I wanted - nice rigid soles, mostly plain black leather or mesh, only a small yellow flash on the side, and the Specialized logo, and they fit perfectly. Or at least, the right foot did. The other right foot didn't go quite so well on my left foot! Dammit! I've got two right footed cycling shoes, and I'm no nearer my first ride!

Or do you have two left feet? No disrepect meant, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Hopefully, eBay seller will come good for this and reimburse your expenses. Good luck!

I hope he will! Or, even better, find the left one! Apparently these were lying around the back room of a bike shop, ex display, for a long time. Maybe he can find it! Whatever else, I've confirmed that 47 is the right size for me. The tables converting UK to Euro sizing differ sometimes, and also, people say you should buy cycle shoes a half size up. Short of going to a bike shop to try on shoes I have no intention of buying, I could only take a shot in the dark!

A half size up? While sizes do vary a bit for the most part my cycling shoes are 1/2 size Smaller. Thin socks here. But Southern California is generally warm.

Damn it all, here we are a week later, and the seller has failed to respond to any of my (very polite) messages. I've now had to make it a Paypal dispute, and am STILL waiting for a response.

1) I have no, none, zip interest in ever going clipless. Special shoes for cycling? My wife's closet is all the warning I need.
2) I have a Black Arrow FD surplus to need.
3) The Exage 500 double piviot brakes and RD went on my Miyata today. Nice two-tone grey effect. That Industrial Design course I took in collage continues to haunt me.;)

Yeah, I guess it is ridiculous to have shoes specifically designed for something I spend an awful lot of time doing. In fact, it's almost as crazy as spending so much time on the bike to begin with.

1) I agree, for the purpose of most riding, but I want to try it for long road rides. I don't see myself using them to run dowtown, but hey, that's why we have 8 bikes, right?
2) I'm interested! Say more....
3) Good stuff, I hope it all works well for you...

My cycling shoes are 2 size bigger!!

My sneakers are 48, my hiking boots are 47, my work boots are 49, my mtb shoes are 48, my road shoes are 47, my commuting shoes are 47, and my dress shoes are 50.

I've pretty much given up on shopping online for shoes.

Doh!!!

We had a guy show up to a freezing Saturday morning group ride with two left gloves :D

Apparently his sister has two right gloves since his mom gave them all gloves for xmas.
