I have an old 850 that I really don't ride much anymore now that I have a more modern mountain bike and a couple of road bikes. I keep thinking of selling it because I don't need it at all, but I've had it since '95 (bought brand new) and I'm kind of attached to it at this point. I really need to invent a reason to keep it and I like the the idea of the 69er/96er, so I was thinking of putting a CX fork on it, throwing a 700c wheel on there and riding the hell out of it again. My question is, how screwed up will the geometry be? Besides the brake bosses, how does a CX fork differ from a normal road fork? Would I be better off using my current fork and finding some brakes that will work?
Finally, if anyone has an uber cheap 1" threaded CX fork (do they even exist?) I'd love to hear about it. I might even go for a threadless set up if anyone has something cheap. Then I can just try it and stop talking about it on the itrawebz. Thanks!
