Brazil nuts have a compound in them that make you more let's say........verile.
Almonds. Despite the fact that the hardest, crappiest, and lowest paying job I ever had was moving sprinkler pipes in an almond orchard.

Almonds and pistachios and salted in the shell peanuts.
Why do almond farmers call their product a'monds? Because they gotta shake the "L" out of em to get them outta the tree.
That was for you Superdex!!

Gotcha covered! We have 8 trees. Badly neglected, but we are pruning them this week.
Did you know that Cashews are REALLY caustic? If you don't roast them they can burn your mouth. More than a few visitors have found out the hard way. The fruit of the cashew is what most people eat down this way and it is very good.
I like cashews, almonds :) No salt as well. :)

my daughter got VERY ill last month by cross contamination on a key board at school, Im all for jokes but I made that public on here of how sick she was and how she could die from it, I just posted another comment on how she again got sick yesterday because of nuts and then this thread went up,I hope it was coincidence :( and not a bad joke for me... It made me very sad to read this joke about allergies specially after I just told everyone that she is sick again.

BDG, I hope your daughter is feeling better. I didn't read the threads about her alergies. I'm sure the OP wouldn't be so callus to make fun of this situation.....:( ......right?

Oh my goodness...how long does it take to grow them? !8! Trees? Oh yum. Now I really think we need to move down there! :p :D
Cashews? Really? I eat raw cashews all the time, and I've never been burned. I actually prefer the flavor over roasted ones. It's possible that the ones I eat are blanched, though.
If coconuts count, then they are my favorite. :) But really, I love most nuts. Almonds are especially good after soaking them for about 10 hours. Sooooooo good!

Shadiyah - there probably is a way to remove the offending skins on Cashews.
Found on the web:
Cashews come from the same plant family as mango and pistachio, as well as poison ivy and poison oak. The "poison" in these plants refers to the powerful chemical irritants they contain, which causes our skin to itch. So, handling and eating raw cashews will cause the same itchy skin reaction in people sensitive to the irritant as handling poison ivy.
Since these caustic chemicals are found in the shell oil, not the nuts themselves, shelling them removes much of this oil and irritants. Roasting cashews at a high temperature helps ensure that commercially sold nuts will not trigger a reaction in their consumers, since the roasting process destroys the shell oil that may still remain on the nut.
Didn't know you were eating poison ivy, now did you?
I think it is 4 or so years to go from seeds to Macadamias - but I am not sure.

And more:
You may be able to find raw, shelled cashews in specialty or health food stores. These nuts have not been roasted, but they have been heat-treated to remove the caustic shell oil. Raw cashews are popular among raw food followers, and can be used to make cashew milk. Choose a reputable source, as you want to avoid rancidity in the unroasted nuts as well as ensuring that the caustic shell oil has been removed.

4 years? That's all? :) How many times a year do they produce nuts? This is fascinating. :D
I didn't know that cashews were like that! Same with mangos and pistachios! I wonder if you can eat pistachios raw. I have never found any. I wonder if they cause burning as well. The cashews I usually buy are from a brand called Nutty Guys (http://www.nuttyguys.com/category.php?cat_id=104). They are a local company here in Salt Lake City, and they have GREAT products! :)

Things really grow fast in the tropics. They can produce for about half the year or more. All the blooms do not set on at the same time. I just checked, 5 to 7 years to start producing - and then continue for 70 years or so.
Avocados are more like 8 years. Citrus, 2 to 3 years.

I just answered my own pistachio question here: http://www.nuttyguys.com/category.php?cat_id=109
:D I want to try them!
Pecans, pistachios, and cashews are my favorites
Walnuts in salads or cookies
macadamia nuts with chocalate, or in fish dishes. The oil is great on salad or cooking
Hazelnuts, roasted, no salt for munching and cooking. Over ice cream with soft chocalate...yum!
Almonds in granola or in salad. Chopped fine and made into a crust for fruit crisp (blueberries, apples and raspberries together).
Just about any nut butter on home made bread.

blonduathlongrl,
I wasn't aware you or anyone else here had a recent bad experience with nut allergies. I just included that as a silly throwaway line. Perhaps I should have been more sensitive when I posted, but it wasn't prompted by malice. I hope your daughter is doing well.

cashews are not nuts. Look it up. EDIT: ...failure to read complete thread...
I used to have a thing for walnuts, then I ate too many one day and got sick. Then I was a cashew man. Ate too many this christmas. Now I'm all about the pistachios. I sure hope I can control myself.
