This is to solicit advice from the HB'ers, or others who might know . . .

I've secured childcare for the big V-day coming up, and instead of doing the traditional restaurant dinner route, I'm considering packing up a dinner and heading down to HB and doing a bonfire, etc. - my questions are . . .

What time does the beach close this time of year?
Where are the pits located? I forget if it's on the Bolsa Chica side or the HB side . . .
Let's say I'm coming down the 605-405 . . . do I exit Beach? What's the best way to get there
Any killer dessert places in the area?

I beleive the beach closes at 10pm year round.... I could be wrong, but I know in summer its 10pm

Again I beleive the fire pits are on the south side of the pier... just dont quote me!! might wanna fire up Google earth....

Beach is the most straight shot to the beach but you will have to drive a little north to get to the pier once you hit PCH, or you could use Goldenwest....

dessert? hmmm only thing I can think of is Cheesecake Factory on Beach and Edinger next to the 405...

The beach closes at 10. There are fire pits south of the pier all the way to the city limits; I'm not familiar with the area north of the pier. If you're going to the area south of the pier, then Beach Blvd is the easiest way. Of course, there are no nearby stores to grab that dessert once you get south of Beach Blvd.

I took my girlfriend to Huntington Beach for her birthday last december. It was great. :D Bonfire, hot dogs, ice cream... ;) It's like $6-7 for parking though, cash only.

Superbowl is Sunday 4th and Valentines is always February 14. Also Superbowl Sunday happens to be the Pacific Shoreline Marathon in Huntington Beach.

Most tourists take Beach Blvd and on weekends its a mess. Locals get off the 405 and take parallel streets like Newland, Gothard (up to a point), Golden West, Magnolia.

This year Valentine's is Wednesday. So it shouldn't be too busy. If the beach closes at 10pm, then you're heading out before then, and want dessert somewhere's back to the 405 fwy?

If you really want a treat and spend $$$, then try the Italian restaurant, Cavallino on Adams and Beach Bvld. Jazz entertainment that night, piano, bass, drums, singer. No menu choice that night, just a Valentine's special dinner. This place is no plain spaghetti and meatballs place. Its fine dining.
