I'm sick of talking about Spam. What foods do cyclists really eat? I'm a big pasta freak myself. I also love cheese, grapes, infact, just about any fruit I can get my hands on.

I could probably eat pasta three times a day with no complaint whatever. Definitely my all-time favorite food, though I like a lot of others too. I enjoy barbecue occasionally. Love pizza. Salad bars are great (but I have sanitation suspicions about them, so sometimes steer clear...).

As long as I have cheese and eggs (love omelets, by the way), and the occasional sardine, I feel no need for meat, and in fact have all my life never cared all that much for steak or any other meat.

For good energy that is easy on my stomach (harder to live with since surgery removed 1/3 of it two years ago), I find pasta with almost any sauce within reason; or bagels or other bread with peanut butter, is a good solution.

I also am crazy about ice cream, though OF COURSE I know it's very very very bad for me, etc. etc. Come on, I'm 61 years old and I'm ready to check out anyway! :)

For me it's just about anything except cocanuts. Skinless chicken breasts, cous-cous, and other pastas make up the bulk of my diet. Wash it all down with a cool Sam Adams Boston lager for the liquid bread factor .

Have you tried that Thai soup made with coconut milk? I'll bet you'd like that! (Sorry, can't think of the name of it.) Umm, good!

Say, AlphaGeek, what time are you putting those kabobs on the grill? :p

I am really trying to eat more nutritiously. I've read that foods that are as close as possible to their natural, unprocessed state are the best.

That rules out about 99% of the typical American diet! ;)

Seriously, I'll tell you what I usually eat, if you promise not to laugh or lecture me. I have much still to learn.

In order of frequency (as near as possible): whole grain breads,
natural peanut butter, nonfat dry milk (this is one that's supposed to be a no-no), apples, orange juice, tomatoes, carrots, beans and rice, broccoli, tuna...in addition, off-the-wall things like pizza, spaghetti, chili, burritos...

I also try to avoid hydrogenated oils, as these are supposed to be a MAJOR contributor to heart disease.

I take supplements as well, but nothing wierd.

If cornered, however, I will eat anything. Even SPAM!
