Classic & Vintage - Dating a Royce Union
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I picked thsi Royce Union Annex 2.1 today, and was wondering if anyone has any info on it. How can I find the year it was made. It has Sram Gripshifters, 7 speed with DX 297 Aluminum rims. Has a Humvee 700 front suspension with linear pull brakes. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a different Royce Union I won in '93 or '94 at a charity event. It has the same stem. But it has a very traditional frame. Good luck.

I rode one when I first started commuting. I always assumed it was just an average X-mart mountain bike. It held up pretty well for about 7 months of being constantly pounded on so it couldn't have been that bad- especially when I made the front fork rigid and did away with the rear suspension. The addition of skinny slicks and better V-brakes completed the frankenstein transformation.
Mine had Shimano (very low end- just called "SIS") drive train parts. You could try to find a date code if you've got Shimano stuff on it and match that up at vintage-trek.
And mine was an "Isolator DS" in case you were curious. Not that it matters- there isn't ANY information on the internet about them. I also forgot to mention that mine was date coded as a '99.
Thanks for the info, will check this evening
