Just need to vent/rant.

So my girlfriend and I have been having problems since I cut my hair (hacked off over 17" to donate to Wigs for Kids). It seems she is attracted to me because I had long hair. The haircut happened last Monday, the problems have been building up since then.

I managed to catch a delicious little cold this last Sunday night. It got firmly entrenched in my body Monday, started to really blossom Tuesday, and then declared war on me yesterday (Wednesday). Coughing, sneezing, stuffed up and blocked nose, runny nose, all that stuff came on Tuesday, when I had a rehearsal for an upcoming fire show.

When the battle front of my bloodstream had been declared, I had to have a temperature which shifted from as low as 97.7 to 99.5 every 30-45 minutes.

On top of that, I had to work at the family shoe store yesterday. Yes, had to work for my family while my face and lungs were both imploding and exploding and my temperature was dancing a lambada. Why did I have to work? 'Cause the owners (mom and aunt) are in Vegas for a shoe show. Oh, I should mention that I loathe working at the shoe store with every ribosome and golgi apparatus in my body.

My coworker ended up "having" to leave so she could go trash her ex-bf's place. He cheated on her after 2.5 years of dating, so she decided to show her emotional instability, run off, and trash his house. This took over 2 hours while I had to help fit people in shoes. Apparently, the fact he cheated on her with someone 5 years his senior and who is rumored to be ugly makes it that much worse...

I'm at about 90% now. Cough with a bit of a stuffy nose. Girlfriend and I are still having issues, and I have another rehearsal tonight. Plus, I have to work at the shoe store tomorrow. I think I'm going to have a couple martinis tonight. Maybe I can pickle this rhinovirus...

I hear ya, my jew-ican brother! Let it out.

People were shocked when I cut my long hair. Funny, this really pretty girl I didn't even know started crying and interrogating me when she saw me pick out a mirror and shears at the drugstore!

People are fickle like that. Change ****s up their world pretty fast.

As for the cold...lay off the alchohol. It will just dehydrate you and lower your immune system.

May I suggest some lemon/honey/ecinechea(sp) hot tea, and a chaser of 100% pure orange juice?

You'll feel better temporarily. Then take a steam bath and get some rest. You'll be too busy taking care of yourself to worry much about the lady. She'll miss all the attantion, and reflect on who you really are and what that means to her.

E, How long have you been with this woman? Hair is hair and it is no reflection on who you are inside. Unless of course you are nothing but a trophy to her. I sure hope she is helping you to feel better by tending to you right now. Are you drinking enough fluids and eating right? As I said to you yesterday, I commend you for helping out at the store when you weren't up to it. Your family knows and I'm sure they appreciate it. As for the worker, I would have warned her not to leave. It was job abandonment if you ask me. Hope you feel better. ((hugs))

If one of my employees jumped ship like that, they wouldn't have a job to come back to. I'd rather have no employees than one that is unloyal and emotionally irrational. As for the hair, it'll grow back. Hope you feel better.

It sounds to me like there is one employee who needs to find work elsewhere and perhaps a gf who is angling for her walking papers as well. I truly hope I am very wrong about the latter. Good riddance to the former - make sure Mom and Auntie know about this alleged worker's transgressions.

SS, sorry to hear about the woes. ((hugs)) I think what you chose to do with your hair is a nice thing. I did the same when I cut mine for the first time in over three years. Maybe it'll just take her a little gettin' used to the new look. I know it took me a while to recognize the person lookin' back at me in the mirror!

Here, have some chicken soup! :D

SingingSabre, I'm very sorry to hear about your cold and your girlfriend. Family issues, well, they happen and you can't control them. That employee sounds a bit scary, though.

Didn't you cut your hair to prevent a fire dancing accident and also because long hair isn't going to mesh well with your future career aspirations? Is she just not a practical person, or would she truly rather have you with singed hair and burn scars? As a future police officer, she'd have no problem with some bad guy grabbing hold of your hair in a struggle? I guess I just don't understand that worldview, but perhaps it's for the best to know now.

So I really outdid myself in the kombucha drinking department getting over that strep throat, and I'm convinced it helped my recovery immensely. My food coop sells one with ginger in it, and it also settled my stomach. Perhaps you can acquire yourself some and give it a try? I've decided to learn how to make it at home at the next food coop kombucha event, as I'm sick of paying so much for the good stuff.

SingingSabre, is she serious about you or about your hair. Damn. It is still you hair or no! Give it some time though.

Serendipper is spot on with the Martini thing. Try a hot toddy. Hot glass of you favorite tea with tablspoon of honey, twist of lemon, and a dollop of whiskey. Get into bed early and have drink. it will put you into dream land PDQ. Rest and fluids are the best when you feel like crap. Oh chicken soup is dynamite too!

She's 18 and a serious asset to the store. One irrational outburst isn't grounds for her to be fired, imho. She's one of the best employees there, especially because she has a lot of college contacts who'll be buying Ugg's next Winter. I'm covering for her because $hit happens, and I don't think a single breakdown after a long time of top notch performance is a good reason to can the kid.

Donna, I cut my hair for the PD. I had also been planning on donating it for quite some time. I'm quite fond of the new style and plan to keep it this way for quite some time.

That said, I failed my oral board for the PD. Time to try again! :D

I'm going to try to head over to the local coop and see if I can score myself some kombucha. I don't know why I didn't think of that!

Tomorrow, I'm planning on riding to work to sweat out what I can of this nastiness.

Gf and I seem to be doing better...but we're going to have to have a chat about things when I am more articulate and lucid.

Tomorrow, I'm going to make some of my +20 Chicken Soup of Healing. It instantly adds 20 to my health. I can go back for seconds for an extra +15. :)

Here's the recipe for those interested:
BIG pot 1/2-3/4 full of water.
Bone-in chicken breasts (3-4).
Pound o' carrots, peeled and sliced into 1/2" circles
Big thing 'o celery sliced into 1/2"...er...crescents
A bunch of kale
A bunch of collard greens
A bunch of spinach
1 white onion, sliced into half inch squares
Some green onions, sliced
Salt and pepper to taste.
Manischewitz matzoh balls, prepared to package.
If you're cojones are large, throw in a habanero or three.

Boil the **** out of it. Skim chicken fat off the top. Boil more. Simmer some. Serve hot.

Uggs?? Did you say Uggs?? :)

Glad things are going better for you. You spend a lot of your time making others feel better and now it's time to concentrate on you. Remember that you have a lot of people here who are hoping the best for you right now.

It is very good of you to give an allowance to your employee but I would still remind her that she left at an inconvenient time and although the reason she left was very important to her, self control can go a long way in life.

Now I'm gonna have to save that recipe.

Knob, I have no idea what that beer is you're offering me, but if it's free, I'm game.

Woot.

Thanks everyone, I'm feeling much better. Still making my soup tonight, though!

I'll likely keep this thread updated on the results of the talk about my hair between gf and I.

I can't believe how much I take a constant temperature for granted! One of my coworkers at the shoe store is actually HIV+. He's a great guy and fun to chat with...and a great reminder of how healthy I am, despite a temporary cold bug. That said, it doesn't make me feel any better when my head spins when I stand up and my chiropractic adjustment goes awry from a coughing fit!

Have your ladyfriend shave her head. Then you can make a wig from the remains and wear it when you're around her. Double points if you wear her clothes, too.

Oh, and is your coworker hot?

Her clothes are far too tight on me...

My coworker who went through the breakup is okay. She has a bit too much of the snobby, uptight look for me. She also seems to be quite short on personality.

There is another coworker who is just a live wire. She's a dancer and studying to be a physical therapist. She rocks.

The other coworker, the + one, cracks me up. He's a mix of German and Basque (I think that's how it's spelled!), gay, and has a great sense of humor.

Today's my last day at this store...then it's the new massage job with my rockin' coworkers there. I can't believe how much beauty and talent surrounds me at that place.

I'm glad you're on the mend! I just barely read this post, and I can't believe how your gf can be so moved by a new hairstyle. Either she'll get over it, or she won't. If she doesn't, well then you're probably better off without her. I sincerely wish you the best. You can also buy kombucha from Natural Food stores as well! :) Good luck!
