Changes to MS 150-Ride to the Beach

I saw where the MS150 was changing dramatically this year. Instead of starting away from the beach from Rockingham, Weddington, etc- the Saturday and Sunday ride will start and end in Broadway at the Beach south of Myrtle and have loops on closed roads both days. They will have several loops available up to a century on Saturday and also some choices on Sunday. I assume overnight stays will be in hotel rooms.

Sounds like a good response in lieu of the tragic accident last year plus the logistics of shuffling riders back to the starting point on Sunday.

I have not participated in the event the last couple years but wonder how participants will see the changes. Any thoughts?

jppe - Also got notice of the change from previous routes, I assume as a result of last year's events. Kind of intrigued about the 100mi on Sat to follow with 75 on Sun. This might actually be a better more "family friendly" ride for me, as it's hard to include my daughters (2@10yrs) on distance events when Florence, SC is the midpoint overnight Sat. (as an example). We can go down as a family on Fri., I can ride Sat & Sun and they can enjoy the days in Myrtle, spend Sat. eve with me and ride back home on Sun. Makes it an outing.

I was considering the "ride to the beach" either this year or next, but probably do not want to do a "ride around while at the beach". I'd much rather ride around through the country and end up on the crowded roads around Myrtle Beach. I don't want to drive to Myrtle Beach to ride around on their crowded roads. And I just can't see them closing all the roads for us.

that was my first thought when I heard of their new route plans. I agree, Dan, seriously doubt they'll stand for the roads to be closed at that time.

Besides, where do people expect to find hotel rooms to stay overnight and do both days without spending an arm and a leg on them??:eek:

They won't. The hospitality industry both here and on the Grand Strand (do they still use that term) will use any excuse to jack up rates and apply "three night stay" minimums. I have first hand, inside knowledge.
