My sister and I have only ever missed watching three Superbowls together: last year, the year I lived in St. Louis, and the year I was overseas. :)
We have traditionally pigged out on all kinds of seriously huge Dagwood-style sandwiches, meat, chips and dip, nachos and cheese, chili, ice cream, Twinkies, éclairs, etc., nearly to the point of tossin' cookies. Yeah, sweet times! :p
This year, however, in an effort to be kinder and gentler to ourselves, we're goin' a more lean and healthy route, with fruit, cheese, crackers, smoked salmon, and raw veggies with dip, in part because she's on a diet, in part because I'm training.
Ok, Foo'ers, what's on your Superbowl menus? Discuss. With pics. :D

My original menu was ....uhhhh...beer, but I'm getting complaints from the crew. I'm gonna have to come up with something.
Buffalo chicken wings sound like a good start. Probably need some kind of cheese dip too...
filet of manning hopefully
Does the superbowl have something to do with soccer?

I'm planning on attending a get-together type event; I don't know what to expect. Check that, I do expect chips, sweets, drinks, sandwiches, among other things.
Or toilet bowl.
Guess I'm drinking toilet water on superbowl day then. Mhhhm salty.

You know - if youswitch to the animal channel during the super bowl you can see a bunch of dogs running around and drinnking from toilet boils.
Interestingly enough it's more interesting then watching 7 referees decide who is the winner of a game where thugs beat each other up and occassinoally try to kill each other by pulling the others head back , ripping off the helmet or smashing the face in with their cleats.

Two beautiful gals, food AND the superbowl? I'll be right over. :D
Well, I'm not really rooting for any teams, so I guess I'll use the time that everyone is watching the Superbowl as time to go eat out at Kerbey or something.

Update: my sister just dropped by to let me know she's throwin' the diet out the window for Superbowl! When I suggested that that might not be a good idea, she said, "The one day of the year I wanna break my diet is Superbowl! Don't beetch-slap me about it!"
mmkay. She's gonna have a freakishly huge meatball sub and massive quantities of other stuff, as in the days of old. Me? Still plannin' to stick with the training food. So then she verbally beetch-slapped me, and said I should lighten up for ONE farkin' night, and that she intends to see that I "do it up right." And fixed me with a <serious Vega-sister look> before she left.
We shall see. Might have a little competition of wills going on during the game. :D

Life's a little on the challenging side these days, and I have some deadline-sensitive work that needs to get done, so I'll likely just have my own private pity party come Sunday afternoon. At least the shopping list will be short.

mmkay. Here's the final menu. We walked around the store, and she wanted to make meatball subs. I said, fine, but since you don't know what part of the beef is going into that ground mixture, you could end up with cow brains and tons of prions. She decided to make veggie/cheese sandwiches with Italian dressing. I also picked up some sushi for myself, and we got a bag of chips, deciding to skip the dip. Also picked up some spicy chicken wings. Ok. So we didn't really pig out as in years past, but we didn't totally go off our respective diets, either. We tried to hit a happy medium.
So, you see the spread, minus the wings (which we heated up and ate in 2nd half). That's a closeup of my sandwich, ready to eat. And of the sushi/sashimi I ate. We started the sandwiches on kickoff and finished them by 8 minutes into the first quarter. Nearly choked on the Blockbuster commercial (the one with the mouse). I finished about a minute ahead of her, thanks to my interval training. I saw the clock hit 7:30 and decided to sprint to 8:00, and finished the last fifth of the sandwich in good time! :D
Then I started on the sushi/sashimi. That's about the time they were discussing Manning's backward thumbnail and all the blood. I refused to look at the TV.
While I was eating the sushi, I asked her if she was ready for the wings yet. No. She said she was on dialup, and still downloading. We did agree that we're not as young as we used to be. :(
We munched on the chips the rest of the first half, and devoured the pickles by the halftime show.
Enjoyed Prince's tribute to Ike and Tina, and to Jimi, and we were both disappointed that he didn't include some James Brown. But, I still enjoyed his "Purple Rain" closing. Brought back some nice memories. ;)
Didn't get a pic of the wings, as I forgot about taking pics at that point, but they were ok.
She left as soon as it was over. Well we've seen worse, in the way of 1st and 2nd quarter blowouts that never reversed. Neither of us had much invested in who won, though we were both pulling for the same team this year, amazingly.
Maybe next year, we'll really do some of our old-style piggin' while we watch our Panthers win. :)
A wonderful Napa Valley Merlot, quite good!
