I just bought a planetbike protege 8 to go on my Specialized Hardrock, however it will not fit. The RST suspension fork is too far away from the spokes so the sensor won't read the magnet. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get this to work? Or should I buy a different computer that will fit mountain bikes with FS?

Thanks for your help.

Try mounting the sensor and magnet near the hub. Also, the sensor doesn't have to be between the fork and the spokes, it can sit behind the fork as long as you line up the sensor mark with the magnet within 2mm.

I've tried every which way to get it to work and I just can't get the magnet close enough to the sensor.

I would try installing the magnet lower on the spokes, closer to the hub. The Planet Bike computer might require the 2mm's of clearance mentioned in the earlier post - My Cateye only makes you adjust for 5mm of clearance, so you have more room for compatibility with different fork/wheel combos.

EDIT: I was typing this while fishepa was typing. Fishepa, did you try wrapping the fork with something like tape to make it thicker where the sensor is mounted, therefore shortening the distance between the sensor mount and the magent? That might work. If you have already tightened the Zip-ties to attach the sensor to the fork, you can cut them off and find a big bag at your local Home Depot for only a few bucks that will do the same job. Good luck!

Mount a reflector bracket around the fork, then attach the computer mount to that. This should position the sensor closer to the magnet.

I just mounted a planetbike computer on my new bike yesterday. It has a rockshox pilot C fork and I had no problem. I mounted the magnet about 2 inches from the axle. Is the inside of your fork offset from the dropouts?

I guess you could cut a few layers of old tube and place them underneath the sensor to move it closer to the spokes.

You can also buy their extra long wire mount for rear wheel mounting... just in case it would be easier to put the magnet on the back wheel and have the sensor pick it up... depends on your frame and wheels.
