Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Just returned from a daytime commute of 5 F with wind chill of -16 F. I was afraid this morning that I would be miserable. But thanks to the advice of many a forum member here, my first venture into the negative double digit wind chill was hardly anything to write home about. The chemical warmers made my toes and fingers comfortable. The application of liquid soap kept my glasses from fogging. Plentiful layers of wicking wool and synthetic materials made insulation a non-issue. And for the first time, I discovered upon removing my outer layers the wicked moisture had crystallized all over my head gear.

I have to venture out again tonight, where the chills may get down to -25 F. Next week, the weather guys are talking -30 to -40 F. All my non-cycling friends shudder, but I'm absolutely giddy.
