I've never seen a stuffed animal (http://vtbear.stores.yahoo.net/) get so much air time. And if the commercials can be believed, all a guy needs to have a girl swooning in his arms is a timely Bear-Gram.
So what's the verdict on these bears? Are they the catalyst to a cuddly nirvana? Or $80 of marketing hype?

I bought one as a Valentine's gift before. A few years later, the bear is still well loved.

It's all about the emotional boost they receive from it.
Women want people around them to know someone really loves them, the more people the demonstration involves the better.
That's why the flowers at work thing is so popular.

I gave it to three female college friends of mine as a friendly Valentine's Day present to all three of them. Five years later, two of them are still roommates, and Gabe Bear (as the bear was named) still is an integral part of their household.

Those are too expensive. I'd rather have a silver ring with his name on the inside so I can see it all the time and think of him. Something that would be with me all the time that I would never take off.

By the way, the posting of the above bear was not an invitation for any male forum members to post more pictures of themselves scantily-clothed. (You know who you are.)

Obviously, some folks don't need much prodding.
Interesting, I missed that ('Da Hood) bear on the website.
NO but my daughter has invested a good portion of my retirement in the Build a Bear Workshop.

Nope. I've never heard of it
I have the Navy Teddy Bear that was bought when i finished bootcamp and then got abandoned so I adopted it and it usually has sat in my kitchen but now sits on top of my subwoofer hidden behind the monitor.

No need to get anything so extravagant. A silver ring would do. It represents something that never ends. It could be trust, hope, belief in God, or even friendship. I have a ring that reminds me to do the right thing everytime I look at it. And it came from a friend who got it through his church. :)

That's sweet. :)
When Cuda and I were buying our wedding bands, people kept asking what we would engrave in the inside. We couldn't decide, so we just left them as is, but I did get a chuckle out of the suggestion, "Put it back on." ;)

Maybe on your anniversary you could do that. Engrave them I mean....:)

And this is a perfect example of why I don't own a television.

Most of those commercials are on the radio. Maybe all of them.
Good lord no, but the bear nursery is just south of the Magic Hat brewery so it's all good.
We've got 5 around here. My favorite is the "Birthday Suit Bear". His fur comes off and he's in his birthday suit! Too funny. Even been to the Teddy Bear Factory up in VT. Pretty cool place. And these things are solid! Even if, say, my hundred pound Shepherd gets a hold of one, they have a Teddy Bear hospital you can send your "injured" bear to and they'll repair, restore or replace it for free. For life.

That's the Burlington Old North End Bear.

89 dollars is an aweful lot of money for something which I would almost certainly blow the **** away.

Uhhh... if you never take it off, how do you see the name? :D

They really have a "hospital"? I thought the bear "counselors" (as they describe them) answering the phones was over the top. That company has a business plan on steroids.
Yep, and it's quite a hospital at that. Part of the factory tour (and for the record, the VT trip wasn't to go to VT Teddy Bear, it was just nearby) takes you through the "hospital". They can literally fix virtually any damage to those bears.
