Classic & Vintage - Salvation Army find

Picked up what I believe to be a very dirty, but in great shape, AMF (the F is rubbed off) Sport 2000 for 14.99 today.

I'm trying to figure out its details. Does anyone know the scheme for serials on these bikes? I think it's 4412 C63. There's a triangle-looking figure to the left of the serial:

The other thing is the Sturmey Archer AW. How do I find the year on one of these - Sheldon has a picture where the year is conveniently pictured right below the logo, but there's no serial number that I can see.

On those type of AW hubs, the date code might be stamped vertically to the left or right of the Sturmey Archer label you show.

If I remember correctly, My AMF had a Sport 2000 decal on the head tube. In smaller type, it said "Made in Austria". I didn't think to take pictures before I stripped and repainted it. I bought it as a rusty mess and completely rebuilt it. My hub is dated 72. The rims are German made and serrated on the braking surface. The crank was cottered, but only on the left side. Since there are only two bike companies doing business in Austria, and one of them is a high-end frame maker (Capo), I concluded that it must be a Styer-Daimler-Puch. I don't know if there is any serial number data out there. Of all the AMF three speed bikes I have seen, the earlier ones were made in England by one of the Raleigh companies and the later ones were made by one of the American companies like Huffy or Murray. The Austrian bikes must have only been made for a short time. I like how it rides, it feels very nimble.

Still no luck finding a number stamp on the hub.

Also, the shifter cable is rotted/rusted. Will my LBS have a replacement (aka: is it in the QBP catalog), or should I hunt online?

hit or miss...my LBS didn't have any S-A cables, but what he thought were S-A were actually Shimano 3sp cables:D I just happened to need a couple of those too. I ended up getting my S-A cable from the other LBS in town. IIRC they were about $10.
