Hey, I need to get a different stem as mine is too long, and I figured I may as well replace the grooved road bars I currently have on there. I don't think the stem will matter much, and I guess I could just find something cheap on eBay or whatever. However I'm finding the bar choices a bit difficult with ungrooved bars being somewhat uncommon and all. I'm open to most ungrooved bars that are available in 39-41cm (c-c) bars, but the one thing I'm not so keen on is steel as I doubt I will be an amazing sprinter at 137 pounds. I figure for clamp size 26 or 25.4 makes the most sense. The Nitto 125AA looks like a pretty nice bar, and is supposedly stronger due to heat treatment, but I don't know if it's worth the price since Nitto mod 127 is less than half the price. A lot of the track bars out there are very expensive, though, and I'm wondering if I can just find an old, ungrooved road bar and use that. Stems don't look quite so hard to find, but if you have a particular recommendation of a 1" stem that is available in 90/95mm, I'd be interested in that as well.

Anyway, thanks for sifting through my rambling,

Kyle

kyledr, grooves don't come into the equation - only the diameter matters. NJS Nitto bars/stems are smaller in diameter than most bars. Stick with Italian brands - 3T, Italmanubri, Deda, Syntace - or get an old Syncros and try to find old stock, or go for an Ahead stem with a quill adapter - works fine for track bikes.

Nitto steel is the way to go :)

You can pretty much use anything that seems comfy to you, even if it's grooved or whatever. The Nitto Pearl stem and Nitto steel track bar b123 combo is so solid and pretty and something that you'll want to keep forever that I'd go with this.
