With the number of video cameras in London, there is a good chance the police will be able to identify the attackers. A helmet would have probably reduced the injury she received.

Of course there should be a law that any potential mugging victum must wear a helmet, right.

By the way, where in the article did it say she did not have a helmet on? Or are you just assuming that it is impossible to be injured with a helmet on?

Hope they lock the scum up for a long time.

I read that last night... very odd that it happened. I mean, most people seem to assume that bike commuters are poor, crazy or both and therefore not an ideal target for a mugging.

No, "she should have been wearing steel toed shoes." would have been a ridiculous statement. But helmets do help to reduce head injuries. Notice I said "help" and "reduce." I didn't say "always" or "prevent" or "cure" or "miracle" or "magic." I don't get why some people are so anti-helmet. Of course they help sometimes.

It isn't unreasonable to think that wearing a device that is designed to absorb some shock would have helped to dissipate some energy of a fall(or other blow) to the head in this situation ultimately resulting in reduced injuries or perhaps no injuries. We can only hope. It most likely would not have increased the injuries so there really is no reason not to wear a helmet even if you think it does very little in major accidents.

You can certainly argue against being told or forced to wear it. After all it is your head.

of course they help reduce injuries. This woman was attacked. Yes, a helmet might have prevented her injury, but not being attacked would have completely prevented it. harping about wearing a helmet after the fact is pointless. People should be able to wear one of they choose.

i wear a helmet on my motorcycle and bicycle b/c i go out and take risks. I hope to mitigate the results if something were to happen. However, a lady bicycling down the road should not have to worry about her purse being snatched and crashing therefore requiring a helmet....

i'm sorry it's a ridiculous statement.
