I was at my inlaws today and sneaked a peak at the Norwegian equivalent of Craigslist. A guy some 75 miles away was selling a Pinarello for a little under 200$. Claims it was a backupbike for a Norwegian contender in the 92 Olympics. He bought it ten years ago and rode it twice. Delta brakes and I got him to check out the cranks since he only had a bad picture from the nondrive side. He said campy on the cranks and campy on the pedals, very good signs.
I bought it and he has pulled the ad so now I cant look at it anymore. I am very tempted to go for a longish drive after work monday and pick it up. Keep you posted.

Remarkable self control. I'd be driving now.

You gotta love that faux-provenance stuff, don't you, I had one seller claim his bike used to belong to the neighbour of the nephew of a (notoriously UNknown) professional (!) It also reminds me of a man who applied for a job once in the TV/video store I used to work. He told the boss he was indeed technically able BECAUSE he used to sit next to a guy in class who later went on to become a well known electronic engineer !!

I talked to the guy when I picked up the bike and I think the story is OK. The frame is a near mint Montello and it might very well be a team bike that never was used and then built up with parts laying around.

I don't doubt the truth of the story (nor of the one I was told), but I just think it funny when people try to make a bike more interesting with it; real provenance does add interest (and value!), but it means the bike used to belong to a FAMOUS rider, not a complete unknown.
You've got yourself a nice riding bike, btw.
