so... that vid was one of the -200- "jumps" that you did before yesterday where you and your friend built a 4ft jump? i'm very confused...

alextrox69
02-04-07, 11:20 PM
that was friday...4ft sat and sunday...please...standered or titanium

jiiiim
02-04-07, 11:27 PM
so on friday you had time to shoot a low quality vid of a "jump" with a phone
and sat AND sunday you somehow forgot to shoot it down to show your glorious 4ft jump?

just go with standard cuz i'll probably break it again

Dannihilator
02-04-07, 11:27 PM
Seriously though, I can bunny hop higher and further than you did with that jump.

While you did show a video of you doing a jump, you didn't "jump". Your preloading the fork too late, you should be thinking about preloading the fork right before you get on the ramp, once you are on the ramp start to unload. Also, shift your body weight more towards the front, that landing looked very painful. Also stay loose when landing it's a lot easier on the equipment.

okay okay, this is too funny for me, I cant stop laughing. Okay here goes:

Erm Alex, try learn lifting your front wheel first on a flat ground, later when you can easily lift your front wheel, start practicing you timing on lifting your front wheel right before the jump. Oh yeah and dont sit while you are jumping, make use of your leg as absorbers. If you watch some professional freeriders you get what everyone trying to tell ya. (it will feel kinda weird first when your leg absorbs the force)

Now, its good to get advice from internet but if some stuffs require you to watch how to do it, surf the internet for some vid about jumping and etc and learn or you could get someone to show you, which would be better.

Kay, now about Titanium Saddles, hmm.....I guess even if you manage to find the strongest saddle, as long as you didn manage to use your leg as a absorber, a titanium saddle wont fix it. Another solution would be using a Full-Sus but it can be considered that you skip a step in learning how to jump because you are using your rear shock to absorb unnecessary bumps (this is one of the reason why earlier we asked you to own a hardtail).

Alex, remember this, all jumps or tricks that you see the pros are doing take months to able to master it, expect a lot of falls till you reach this level. And start asking about how to execute a nice landing or etc, explaining your problem instead of blaming your bike.

~~Peace Out~~
P.S : Wow writing this took me 5-10mins. Haha

That jump made me jealous, I mean I got nothin' on any of that.

Where do you find all the balls to hit stuff that big? Do you borrow them from the pro's?

No, I think this one will be better: http://www.comfortsaddle.com/
It will sway with the impact.

Or, just ride with no saddle.

Alex - just so you know your warranty on your bike is now void. The bike you bought is not designed to do four foot jumps. Now, when things break in the future please do not ask why or expect your shop to fix them for free for you.

As far as your saddle goes just ask the shop if they have any cheap saddles they have taken off of other bikes. You should be able to get them cheap. Until you learn how to ride properly you are going to be breaking a lot of parts.

By the way, have you ever gone by the name Killer B? Because I can tell that the way you ride requires the most advanced, toughest wheelset's available.

bend the bend back with some vice grips or somthing.

rockrates
02-05-07, 09:00 AM
he needs a flight suit for all that air he was catching

(keep riding the bent saddle. if you're gonna take your bike out on trails, most of the time you won't be on the saddle anyway)

i used to bend cheap seats like crazy. i only took little jumps, and every time i used my legs as shock absorbers. but i think being 210lbs at the time just bent them over time while i was sitting. I didn't stand for every little root or rock. I stood a lot of the time but no one stands 100%. Also in the first 500miles since i started out i kept getting SUPRISES  that's where you look ahead and everything's clear then you turn to talk to another rider or a quick glance at beautiful scenery and you hit an object. the front shock will absorb it but being on a hardtail the force is transferred directly to your butt. I had a nice Serfas seat i bent that way (loved that seat  ) then used a la-cheapo goodwill bike seat for maybe 100 miles and that one started to bend. no SUPRISES so i guess just my weight was too much for it. now i have a terry seat with hollow titanium rails. i've ridden it about 350 miles so far, a few SUPRISES and 1 endo, and they haven't bent at all.

Add: it was unclear if alex is sitting or standing when jumping. so i'll add that you really should stand, if you're sitting i bet you can develop back, neck, or tailbone problems. if you are standing but find you are hitting the seat on your sweet jumps, maybe lower the seat more when you are jumping. if i do jumps or anything aggressive i lower my seat quite a bit. if you are still bending rails perhaps try a springed seat and/or a shock absorber seatpost. that will take some of the stress off of the rails. btw i hope you mean titanium rails and not an actual seat made out of titanium...

These seats are suppose to be stronger then using two rails because the rail is huge. I have one on my fs and I usually sit for a lot of the trails. I haven't bent any saddle and I weigh about 175-180. The saddle seems very stiff and I don't feel it flex, ever. They make lighter weight versions of these two products but remeber if it is lighter it is most likely weaker. Some people may argue that one but there are always trade offs between the wants of a product.
Here is the seat that you need

and then you will need to get this seat post

I would buy titanium. When you get it cut off one of the rails. Usually the non drive side. Make sure you clamp the remaining side down with sufficient force! What's going to happen is that titanium being SO FRIGGIN STRONG, when you land the seat will flex but not break, acting as a rear suspension. It's titanium so you know it's strong. This added cushion will improve your jumps immensely.
Now, some narrow minded fools might tell you this is incorrect. This is simply because they are inexperienced half wits. This is actually a proven Pro Dirtjump training tool!! Titanium as you probably know is measured like most other metals. Hardeenesce Units are used to measure a metals ability to sustain high stress levels before bending, breaking or shattering . Fluxhabeelty Units measure compression and torsion. Aluminum scores high on the Flux tests but low on Hardes Tests. There is the issue of Euro Fluxs Tests not being standardized with U.S but even accounting for this discrepancy, titanium scores higher than Aluminum or steel. Steel is given higher reflactul marks than Aluminum on the Hardes scale but since the goal of this training technique is to eventually remove your dependence on the seat....who cares! Right?

Not arguing but that is true and false. You can still get some pretty strong light components, they just aren't going to be in the same price range. ;)

Also, your first link isn't to a particular saddle, it is to every saddle that speedgoat sells.

are they good? i have to get a new saddle because i bent two (the origanal specailized one and a cheapo one i found in the trash). will titanium saddle bend as easly? im still learning how to ride the hardtail and im trying to stand more but i dont want to keep going through seat. thanks.:) hey alex, the video below is of a titanium seat in action. i made a bad mistake. let it be a lesson to you. the seat is freaking amazing! i'll never get anything less than titanium again. i think it is indestructible!

enjoy:

Look Alex, If your bending seat rails you're having riding problems not equipment problems. I've seen lots of top end DH race rigs with light weight road type saddles. Sure you can bend one every now and then but that should be the exception.
Here is an example.......
