General Cycling Discussion - Winding down

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

It's the end of the day, cycling done.
We have made an investment in tomorrow's happiness. (Today wasn't so bad, either! ;))
Couldn't agree more. I myself only went about 5 miles, but even that was good. (Even though I got a flat tire!)
Would have done more but the heat index now at 11 PM is still 103 degrees -- this is the hardest day so far.
Even so, I look forward to the next ride. As you well put it, it's an investment.
I just rode home from work in the dark in light rain. Only about 2 miles or so but I took the street route instead of the "urban trail" route and it was great!!
Dog barking at me out of a car window gave me a jump, then I was passed real close by a bus which also gave me a jump but, after thinkin about it, that was better than any car ride home. My own little adventure on the way home. :)
Think about it: do motorists go to a Car Forum and enthuse about their commutes? I don't THINK so! :D
Very good point. Also, my kids broke the visor off my helmet and taught me that I like visorless helmets alot better. Funny what it takes to learn ya!
On the ride home I've been trackin the movements of the moon and, recently, Mars. The visor kind of got in the way really. Mars is off to my left and about 45 degrees. orangish tint to the light.
Also I can see flying objects unhindered, like the bats I saw the other night chasing insects. I thought about them for half an hour afterwards. They kind of flew around in my mind.

Well, my day sucked, I broke a chain and only rode about 15km all day  .
At least it's over now. I can get ready for tomorrow.

I like those observations a lot.
On the Web I found some interesting articles about researchers that study bats' feeding habits (they think moths are yummy). The newer sodium-vapor lamps don't attract moths, and therefore are interfering with bats' habits.
Everything interacts.

Well here is my week
Monday- first day back commuting after 2 weeks off , 1week holidays and the next week rain rain rain. Didn't feel that get up and go like you do after a lay off -25km doing it tough to work, in the afternoon it was a real slog to ride those 25km.
Tuesday- felt bit better, spun well going to work, always ride 39/19 or 39/17 after all it is 5.30am. Warm day and even though I drunk heaps of water still got dehydrated/ head ache- rung SO for lift halfway home.
Wednesday- took it easy in, legs still wobbly. Hugh storm in arvo rode into it, very slowly then bailed out and rang SO.
Thursday- spun well, chased 2 guys and caught them! Felt better in arvo, well at first then 39/17 last 15km. Fatigue set in.
Friday- well what a blast! Felt GREAT, spun in 39/17 at 105/110 rpm ALL the way to work, then on the way home did a 3km at my pursuit pace 53/16 at 105/110 rpm. Then a few big gear sprints and I mean big- the semitrailer was hot on my butt!
Just couldn't believe that today everything clicked and now (9.30) I have that dull muscular ache that comes with hammering, and I feel GREAT.
Some days things just click, but I always love riding.
Regards to all.
Sillystorm, sounds like you're really paying attention to what's going on on your rides, and listening to your body's warnings and not hesitating to give in when that seems the wisest thing to do--and in my book, that's smart cycling. Good for you!
I'm slowly getting used to my commute..and felt great last night...maybe something about riding in torrential rain..it really gets me going!
Have a great weekend guys, and I'll chat again in two weeks..
 Rich
Ah, the end of another weekly commute. And, another wonderful week it was!
Monday, due to early morning meeting, straight in to work, 7 miles. Trip home, 12 miles.
Tuesday, normal detour, trip to work, 27 miles, then 12 to get home.
Had to drive on Wednesday, so got up early and rode 20 miles before getting ready for work. A new biking friend stopped by the house, and dropped off a fully restored Schwinn bike for me to try out.
Driving again today, but still mananged to log a quick 20 on the Schwinn.
First full commute on the Schwinn. Did my normal 27 mile morning ride, and had a ball. Got to see a beautiful deer cross the road in front of me. She was not wasting any time crossing the highway, had I been closer, I think I could have ridden under one of her jumps!
Sitting here at work now, thinking about the evening ride home in 100+ degree weather...and tomorrow a trip to the LBS and a 30 mile ride with some of the folks up there, followed by a cookout! A good week, followed by a great weekend! Can't get much better!

How do you like that old Schwinn Paramount?
For many bicycle collectors, the Schwinn Paramount is one of the Holy Grails (fortunately in bicycle collecting, there are several Holy Grails.)
