Hope this isn't redundant, but I was just wondering what you all had as a plan for this coming year/season/whatever...
This can be any kind of difference you want to make, or result you want to see (mileage, weight, fitness, PRs or whatever else.)
My own goals:
-I started last season around 225, finished up 209. Now at 213 (damn winter), want to finish under 200 this summer. 190 would be great, but I'm not holding my breath :)
-First double metric, first solo century (Montauk)
-Find new routes to ride for long summer training runs. I have started getting bored with the same old same old.
So, clydes? What are you hoping/planning/aiming for this year?
Goals for this year.
just ride more, last season I was grounded for the most part as I tore Ligaments in both feet "OUCH"
They are just starting to feel ok 9 months later.
for larger goals Id like to knock off a metric century, im planning on riding to the camp some nice spring saturday or better yet on a friday (take the day off :roflmao:
as for commuting im hoping to get a solid 3 days a week at least into work 19mile, often I have much running to do after work that does not jive with the bike. But im happy to say the busses all have bike racks now and I can get service within a mile of my house, or to the other end of the county ,Im often over there after work ..., too far to ride if I want to get over there in a certain time frame.
Also would like to work on the FAT loss some more/again, I lost 78 lb (5 pant sizes) 3 years ago and pretty much kept it off without too much effort, (all but 11 lb ), pant size is still at lowest.
Id like to kick into gear again and drop one more pant size.
as for a material cycling goal, My commute bike is a Cross check that I built ,I like it but I long for a vintage 80s touring frame to set up as my commute beast, havnt found one my size yet. but Im always looking.
HAPPY SPINNING

Well if I'm going to be on track for my overall goals, in 2007 I *have* to:
-Get below 300 (finally!)
-Do my first metric and actual centuries
-Bike to work every day
-Ride like hell
Here's hoping! I'm on a good start, if I can keep it up, no problemo.

* to get back under 200 (crept over in October. That's right, I got a head start on my Holiday weight)
* log 3000+ mi (it's Feb and I haven't ridden outside once yet this year)
* first Triple Bypass (http://www.teamevergreen.org/triple_bypass.htm) -- already signed up!
* first self-supported century (have done organized centuries the past couple years, just need to do one solo)
* first multi-day tour (tbd)

170 pounds for a training weight and 160 for competition weight.
218 now.
My weight loss has dramatically slowed down and I probably need to have some excess skin removed to do it.

1) To get from 215 to 200 and stay there.
2) Kick my diabetes rather than it kicking me
3) Try to stay with my current bikes for a whole year

2 pounds per week is my target, 1# is my minimum. (So there will be between 52 and 104 pounds less Hambone to kick around next year.)
10 Centuries.
(Hey, superslomo -- if you haven't seen any posts about it, some buddies and I are doing a bunch of centuries on our own. (Ten centuries adds up in entry fees really quickly.) I am organizing the Hambone Hundred which will be maped/measured from the Port Jefferson (Long Island) train station and will be mapped so that there are good rest stops at the 25/50/75 mile marks. I plan on bolting a chain to a lightpost near each rest area so that anyone can do the route and stop and all you need to carry is a little lock to make your bike semi-secure.)

That sounds fantastic!
I'm interested... I will P.M. with my email to get the details. I would probably drive out, so if anyone wanted to get a ride to the start of the Hambone Hundred, I could probably figure something out.
Would they wind up at another train station so one could get back? Are they starting at Port Jeff. or ending there?

5000 km and leaving the clyde category. This will take a lot of doing, but as they say; aim for the stars to shoot the moon.
Last year I did a bit over 3500km and lost about 10kg, at 106kg now down from >130kg 2 years ago.
Edit, that's 3100miles this year, 2200mi last year, lost 22lbs, at 233lbs

I will post about it on the clyde and the Northeast list.

Henry Davod Thoreau said it well,
In the long run, man hits only what he aims at. So although he may miss at first, he had better aim at something high.
(It's been a few years so I may be a little off but...)
Get to 215# by Dec 31.
Ride goal: 3500 miles, currently on pace for 4200.
Due first Metric by June 1st and Century by 12/31.
Earn new bike by hitting mid goal weight loss of 100 lbs.

Aiming for modest goals, but hope I can do better.
Dropped from 235 to 225 in '06. Want to get to 215 in '07. Anything lower would be a nice bonus.
Started biking again in late '06. Want to keep at it in '07. Will first try to hit a 30 miler, then a 40, and would love to do my age, 52, before the year is out. But would be happy with a 40. Got to start somewhere.
Want to take at least two biking trips, and hope to do 4. Nothing big, just drive off for a long weekend with the bike in the back and make it a big part of the weekend.

Well, this is my first year, as my "girls" (my mother and my fiance) went halvsies to get me my bike for Christmas. Factory delays at Kona meant that I didn't actually take delivery of MY bike until Jan. 18th. Since then I've been just trying to get my feet under me. Been taking endless 0.6 mile laps around my condo complex. I have no cycling specific clothing, so I haope for 2007 to:
1) jump into commuting to school (4.5mi. one way, 4 days/wk.)
2) total 2500 miles this year.
3) get married on July 12th...
4) ...and be 210# or less when I do.
5) eventually make 185-190# later in the year.
6) stay that way.
7) If all goes well, I'd really like to try riding fixie (the new maroon/chocolate brown Surly Steamroller turns me on!)
Seven is enough, I'd guess.
I thought I posted here before-Guess not. My goal is to ride 5,000 miles this year. A bit aggressive, but I will give it a shot.

I started about the end of last February, lost 50lb last year (gained about 4 back :o ), rode about 3300 miles, and did a couple of metric centuries.
This year I want to top 4000 miles, lose the other 50 extra lbs, commute at least a couple of days a week (weather permitting), and do some imperial centuries.
Now if the weather would warm up so I could do some training.

- Would like to be around 240 by the end of Sept, right around 285 now.
- To ride 1 double century (Seattle to Portland 1 day, I've only done it as a 2 day ride).
- 5 Century rides
- 4500 miles for the year.
For me:
Get as close to 200LBS. as possible by spring
Get to 200LBS. during the summer.
Stay at 200LBS. in the fall and winter
Do more than one organized century
Do a ride and sleep overnight during the ride
Dan
For me:
Cycle to work more.
Get down to 85 kg/187lbs by end of this year (where I live cycling season is year long, so I got a year to achieve this)
Ride more during downhill mtb weekend ride compared to now (a lot of sitting due to being tired pushing the bike up)

Sounds like good goals! You going to camp or motel it?
Sounds like good goals! You going to camp or motel it?
I don't know yet - if I get my normal riding partner to go with me it'll have to be a motel... If it's just me, I think it'll be fun to camp, but I'm at the age where what I think would be fun and what turns out to be fun are often at odds. :(
As an aside, your new avatar is truely weird - therefore I like it a lot! :D So, the beard is gone?

My goals this year:
1: Average 100 miles a week (since my commute is at least 18 miles round trip -- even when I grab the bus in the morning due to time or weather, this one is reachable, almost by default)
2: Stop thinking I can eat a half gallon of ice cream every night, just because I put 20 miles in on the bike
3: Do another metric century this month
4: Actually get around to stripping and painting that Fuji frame I bought last month
5: Build it up into a touring bike
6: Rationalize that I botched the paint job, so I need to buy a Surly LHT frame to build up instead (as well?)
7: Do a full century next month
8: Patch the six or seven tubes I have laying around waiting to be patched
9: Learn how hang up my bike without leaving a chainring imprint on my shirt/jacket
10: Shave. Well, that's more of a goal for this weekend, really
11: Hit a couple of MS-150 type rides
12: Learn how to drink from a bottle while riding without needing to slow down to 5 MPH first
13: Figure out a good safe way to ride to Santa Fe
14: Ride to Santa Fe
15: Get ready to ride as soon as Carnosaur 2 finishes up on SciFi
Also, I'm really, really, really tempted to sign up for, train for, and participate in RAIN this year, but it's pretty intimidating sounding.

I am in the same boat as you. I was around 310 3 years ago and got down to 205 about 7 months ago. I have been averaging 150 mi/week since then and my weight has actually gone up to 210 since then. My body fat% has stayed the same and my clothes feel a little looser, so I must be gaining muscle. My goal is to get down to 190.
My goal is to ride 10,000km (~6300mi) this year. I have already ridden 1000 mi this year, so I it is looking like I will have no problem making my goal.
My chest and legs are pretty tight, but my midsection and butt are still very loose. When my trainer did my body fat the calipers read 7mm chest, 22mm abdomen, 7mm thigh. I can't seem to get the belly to go away. My doctor thinks it is loose skin and surgery to remove it might be the only way it will go away. I can afford the surgery, but am afraid of the side effects. I have seen pics of the surgery and it looks painful. I am going to give it another 6 months and see how it goes.
I live in the plastic surgery capital of the world (LA), so it would be no problem to find a good plastic surgeon. I should probably ask my uncle, who is a cardiologist in Beverly Hills if he knows a good plastic surgeon. Couldn't hurt just to go in for a consultation.
I kind of feel like getting surgery would be "cheating" and I would not be able to say I got down to my goal weight all on my own.

Nope, it's not cheating. Your skin doesn't shrink once you've grown the excess skin, it's there for life. Look at it this way, you have the option of donating the excess skin for skin grafts for burn patients. What you are doing when you have the excess skin removed is making a large donation to a bunch of people that need it to help disfiguring burns heal safely and properly.:D Win-Win, right?;)
