Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Check it out! After keeping my eyes peeled for the past couple of years, I finally found an Evans! It's a ladies Commander Model, and I'm looking for more information on it. I realize most people here are vintage lightweight collectors, but I figured there would be someone here who could point me in the right direction.

Also, does anyone know of a good way to remove all the rust without damaging the remaining paint? I'd like to make this look good enough that my wife will let it live on the front porch, it does bear the family name after all!

Finally, what wheels should I be looking for? 26"? Painted? Chrome? Any clue what hubs they came with?

Ya had to do it. No doubt about it. Now, can you help me convince the wife that I need an all Campy bike? After all, Tulio and I were both born on August 26.

Hey thats sweet looking! Ive got a thing for old ballooners, they're fun to muck about on as long as you're not interested in going too fast.

I like the tank on that one, and the rack is neat the way it curves around the fender, talk about Aero! The seat probably isnt stock.. or at least looks like its a replacement. Is the seat post stuck in the frame, I dont see a seat post clamp on it?

That obvliously takes 26" balloon tires. If you wanna go completely stock you can look at the old roads.com picture database, and maybe check out nostalgic.net for photos and see if you could spot the same model. Most cruiser bikes in the 50s had whitewall tires, especially the girls models. Painted rims were still in use though chrome seemed to be more popular at that point in history.

Hey, I have an Evans -- With wheels and without tank.

Why did you want that brand?

The paint looks rather gone from this far away. Probably have better results doccumenting the linings and decal work then take it down and redo it. Either that or just wash it and hit the paint with a cleaner and follow it with polish/wax.

Wow, I didn't see that. Holy cow that's cool, too bad it's too big, not that I could afford it anyway.

Is it a Commander? PM me if you're interested in selling it or parting it out... I'm not normally all that concerned with things being original, but this will be for looking at more than riding so it would be cool if it was as original as possible.

There's a chain in London called Evan's Cycles. They used to brand quite nice steel framesets. If you stalk ebay.co.uk for long enough, I'm sure one would come up!

There is no seat clamp the seat post has the bolt on top, works just like the stem, loosen the bolt, tap it with a hard rubber mallet, it should come right out, 26" is correct, but it should take black tires, my Commander has plain steel wheels, prob nickle, or were poss chrome at one time? not to sure as it looks as if they were never chromed? No trace of chrome at all?
