Bicycle Mechanics - How do you take off the rear cassette?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
How would you do this with the minimum amount of tools?
It really requires two tools, a cassette lock ring tool and a chain whip. I really can't think of an alternative for the lock ring tool. A length of old chain and some way to hold it will work as a chain whip.

You really need three (3) tools:
Chainwhip OR length of chain and locking pliers (this would make 4)
Lockring tool
Correct size ratchet or flex handle or adjustable pliers or adjustable wrench.

One tool...this one (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/harris/stein-mini-lock/). Just remember to pedal forward:rolleyes:
The chainwhip/adjustable wrench/remover tool is easier, however. The Stein is for emergency use.
You can do it with no tools.. just take it to your lbs.
