Tooking into moving up to a f/s from a ht. Do mostly XC riding. Want to stay below $2000 but if I find a excellent bike for more I would be willing to wait a little longer so I could save up the extra money. Rode a Specialized Enduro and didn't like it so I plan to stay away from specialized. My LBS suggested Santa Cruz Superlight, Trek Fuel and GF sugar. Are there any other bikes I should look into?

Giant NRS is one of the better xc bikes out there. I am also a fan of Kona so Kona Kikapu and Kona King Kahuna also ride very nice. :)

You might take a look at the Specialized Epic. It's new this year, right around $2000. The reviews have been great so far (of course, you seldom see a negative review, anymore).
People have also had great things to say about Intense bicycles. A2psyklnut could probably tell you which one(s).

I've pretty much decided on an NRS for myself. Specialized is another popular brand here. Not sure about the $2,000 price tag on the Epic, though. I thought they were a bit more than that....

You CAN get an Epic for under two grand, but barely!

As far as a Santa Cruz, check their website, likewise you can get one for you budget, but barely!

Intense? Yep. $2000, will buy you a frame! Maybe a seatpost and a bottom bracket, maybe even a headset!

However, there are sooooooo many other bikes to choose from. The Santa Cruz are more Custom/Production, the Epic is production, but in it's first year and I'd wait till year 3 to give them time to work out the kinks. (if any).

You stated you rode the Enduro. Did you ride the FSR XC?

Also, check out a Yeti Kokopelli. With discs, you can get one for under $2000.

The Giant's are nice. I'm not a big fan of Gary Fisher's, but I'm not a XC racer. They're well known and liked in the Race Scene. Trek's design is similar yet slightly different. Same philosophy different design!

What else? Too many to think about!

I checked the Yeti webpage and the closest dealer is like 2 hours away. Going to go out to a few shops and ride some bikes and see what I like. I also want to try the Kona Kikapu Deluxe.

it was a 2002 Enduro Expert. i thought that it rode like a tank.
