I started a thread earlier about brake adjustment, but really received no answers on the problem.
I just purchased a Kona Kahuna Deluxe with Shimano BR-475 disk brakes and I can't seem to align them properly. I have no manuals and I have visited the shimano web site as well as other bike tech sites. The problem I have is that I can adjust the inner pad placement, but not the outer. My calipers are placed as far out as they will go but they still rub the outer pads. There is a spline nut that might be what I need to adjust, but the inner adjustment is a hex. I have tried to turn the splined nut, but it is on there pretty good and I don't want to strip it. Besides, I don't even know if it is an adjustment nut or if the outer pads can be adjusted at all. So, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I know that someone is going to say "your LBS should have given you a manual". Well, they didn't have any at the time so I am looking elsewhere for answers. Thanx

The splined(torx) nut is not an adjuster. The only adjustments are the allen screw and adjusting the cable. If you have installed the caliper with every thing backed off and it still rubs. Then it will either need to be shimmed or you may need to have a shop mill the mounts back slightly. If you need more info, pm me with a fax # and I will send you what info I have on the 475, it is out of the 2003 STI manual.

Thanx for the response Rev. Chuck. I will take a good look at them tonight. I will loosen my fixing bolts and back off the inner pad all the way, as well as remove my brake cable and see what that does. thanx again
