General Cycling Discussion - wow, i'm in over my head.

My Sturmey Archer wheel just got here, X-DR8 hub laced to a Alex D-19 rim. It only cost me $50 to :). My original plan was to make it work with my tallbike, but I don't think it's going to fit in the dropouts. Plus I have no clue how to make it work.

What would you do? Make it work, sell the wheel for more, or put it on another bike?

That appears to be a steel frame, if you're saying the dropout spacing is just too wide or too narrow, you could just cold set the rear triangle (the lower one :D ). Instructions here: http://sheldonbrown.com/frame-spacing.html

Thanks again for the advice on the bell, dirtdrop. It's not loud, but the peds really do notice it.

You will need a indicator spindle, sturmey shifter cable and shifter. You will need pulleys for the cable for the frame too. Harris Cyclery should have all the parts you'll need.

I don't think I'll put it on the Tallbike, but I might try and make it work on my commuter.

If not I'm going to sell it, but I cannot find any information on how much it's worth. In fact, I cant even find a place with them for sale! Anybody know the approximate value of what I have here?

Not sure about my pricing but the hub should be worth about $100 a new generation X-RF8 goes for about $170 or so. A NOS 5 speed Elite can fetch $190 range...so take you choice:p

Harris is selling Shimano internal hubs laced up for just shy of $300.

get spacers and put it in a mtb frame, axle looks like its pretty long, worth checking out I think
