Mountain Biking - Best time of year to sell on ebay?

Title says most of it. I am looking for your theories/experiences on when to sell an entry level bike (2005 GF Marlin) on ebay.

Should I post it now or is it better to wait until the Spring?

Will only ship US and Canada if it makes a difference.

I was just wondering the same thing. I'd say if you are selling a complete bike you should wait till riding season heats up. If you are selling a nice upgrade component, then maybe early spring would be ideal. I am getting the itch to buy parts, so perhaps the sellers market time of year is getting near.

I've got a couple of bike parts (bottom bracket and a crank) listed along with some antiques, and the parts are getting tons of traffic (in terms of watchers)--more than the antiques. With two days left, the bidding is beginning--as usual. With as many watchers as I have, I'm expecting some good sniping to occur. As for a whole bicycle, when I've done browsing on e-bay for that stuff, it seems that right about now is the time to begin selling.

After the pre-x-mas time period, I'd say around now would be good - tax refund time, pre mtb season.

From selling around 70 - 100 bikes on ebay I would have to say that the best time to sell them is around April - May. When the weather is nice people are wanting to get out there and ride so they will be looking for bikes.

I would say sell them anytime you want! i have sold many items on ebay and as long as you list them with good information and pics they will sell with a good price i would also recommend making a subtitle, adding a highlight and start bid low price like a dollar if your worried set a reserve price. from my experiances my items with that start at one dollar or less and no reserve sell the best!

I sold a bunch of small-ish parts (stems, shocks etc.) and I started them at 0.01 no reserve. They always closed on average higher than others selling identical items with higher initial prices and with reserves.

I noticed components were more pre Christmas time. I'm not sure about a frame or a complete bike.

As mentioned, low start prices will always attract more bidders.

If an item is well described and photographed there is no reason it shouldn't sell for a reasonable price at any time of year.
I would of though its safe to assume you are likely to get more hits in the spring time when all the more casual riders are thinking about getting in some new equipment.

Although the more seasoned of those among us look for the bargins during the winter months so these prices are inflated too.

Take your time with your listing, answer any questions promptly and 99 times out of 100 you will get what the item is worth.

Yes, I think this has a lot to do with my thinking. The Marlin is quite entry level- the people looking for deals year round generally may not be looking for entry level bikes.

The best time to sell IMHO is April/May or whenever the warmer weather rolls into your area. I'm planning on flipping about 5 or 6 bikes and that's what I'm waiting for. The best time to buy, (parts) is just before Christmas. I knew I wanted a Fox F100. They typically sell used for $250-300 on ebay. Got mine for $200 two weeks before Christmas.
