Hi,
Yesterday I went to the LBS and bought 2 Maxxis Minion DH F tyres.
One is a 'super tacky' (42a compound) and the other is a 'slow reezaay' (42a compound).
I know it probably wont make much difference because they are both such a soft compound, but which in your opinion should i be running on the front, and which should go on the rear?

boy, tires are like women, everyones got a specific type they like...i like the harder compounds 60-70 durometer
in any case, Maxxis are reall good tires, i run them

maybe the super tacky in front - wears faster but it'll keep your front wheel in line
/edit - presuming you're mostly going down

Run the Slow Reezaay in the front. They hook up great but they wear fat.

I want to try a set of High Rollers in the 3C compound eventually.

I've heard wonders about them, I remember reading a good article on them (NSMB.com, maybe?).

They definitely wore out my fat when I was climbing Big Rock on 'em. It's like riding pencil erasers.

Ooops, sorry you're right jetta mike, the Slow Reezaay is the 40a.
I bought these tyres for the Interschools race at Thredbo next week, I'm racing, downhill and mtnx.
Thanks for the replys, i'll run the slow reezaay up front.
cheers.

slow reezay is the softer compound, put it on the front.
i run 2.35 super tacky high rollers on my trail bike, feel like i can ride up vertical walls :D
Hey Michael good luck with interschools, I did it two years ago and our school came 2nd in the DH. It is one of the best times you will have, track riding stops at around 5 or 6, so move to the 4X track, heaps of people will be there and you can shred around there. Then after it gets too dark get some food (the damn pub doesn't serve Schnitty's on Friday) then do some street riding in the dark.
As for tyres run the Slow Reezay on the front and the Super Tacky on the back. You may actually find that you tear more side knobs of the ST rather than the SR. Don't ask me why but that was happening to a mate of mine.
Why?

Thanks Hopper, what was your time down the track? this is my first time racing, but i went down to thredbo in december just before the bushfires, the mtnx track is really nice.
I had an over the bars incident today, and bent the derailleur hanger on my bike, so i've gotta find a new one, and a spare for next thursday...

I run either Maxxis, Nokians or Lobo's on all my big bikes, they all make damned good tires.
Although Maxxis needs to learn to cut the weight down when it comes to BMX tires.

Maxxis is the way to go.
What about Kenda tires? I have a pair of kenda kinetics and I love them! Are u saying I should switch to Maxixs? Will they be much better?

In practice I was pretty consistantly and easily doing sub 7 minute runs but came off in one of the high speed rockgardens in practice the day before the race run. Blood loss really screwed me up (really light headed boarder line losing concsiousness). Spent about an hour waiting for the doctor to get in and had 6 stitches in my knee and lots of painkillers. Before my race doc gave me a local anesthetic in my knee so I didn't really have that much feeling in my left leg. I think my race run was around 7.40 and I kept riding from the finish line to doctors office to get stitches redone :)
The guy on the Stab Supreme in my photo thread came fourth in the DH that year. He took sick from all the sponsored riders (well actually just one real prick) about how his bike was a huck bike (he was on an older Stab Primo with shivers) and he beat them all, except the guys on the Aussie Jnr DH team...... damn Panozzo's:p

My hardtail had Kenda Kinetic's on it, i really didn't like them, not alot of grip, lots of pinch flats. I changed to maxxis, haven't had a single flat....yet, i'll never go back.
