Mountain Biking - When to do 1st oil change on fork?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Just wondering how many miles you guys usually go/what type of conditions you ride in before you do an oil change on your shocks. I have a Fox 100RL if that helps.

I change mine as soon as I buy them! I use a heavier weight oil and prefer the slower damping.
Otherwise, I'd say about 6-9 months of "normal" use. What's normal? One or two days of riding a week. If you ride more, or in adverse conditions, go every 3-4 months. You'll be surprised how different your fork feels after a good cleaning and fluid change. Don't forget to replace worn parts!

ok ... I ride 45 miles a week on average if that helps as well.

read the manual. My fork actually recommends you do it every 10 hours. Hell that's only 2 freakin rides.

Look it up on the web site...they should have manuals (up to date) on the site - and stick to their maintenance schedule. It's miraculous how much longer stuff lasts when you maintain it properly.
