I want to upgrade my fork, which currently has cantilever brakes on it. That is pushing me in the direction of a travel agent eccentric on the v-brakes unless someone makes an aftermarket cable hanger so I can keep my canti's.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm a little concerned that the travel agent can slip out of the break houssing and leave me without brakes on a downhill?

Thanks

You can get a cable hanger for the cantis, it slips over the steerer tube of the fork, between the stem and the headset. That said, if you have the money, get a set of V-brakes and a matching V-brake lever. You will appreciate the additional stopping power, especially on the front, where 70-80% of your braking power is. The travel agent costs about as much as a lever, so you really only are coming up w/ the extra cost for the actual brake. I recommend Avids personally.

Unfortunately, I have the integrated rapidfires, so I'd have to change shifters too. That's why I'm going towards a travel agent...

Are you saying you want to ditch your current fork and go with a new one, and still keep the canti's? If so Marzocchi still makes forks that are canti compatible. Contact Angelo at Phat Tire he has some great deals on Marzocchi's.

That's my fallback plan. Will look at all those options - it is time to get into Vee's if I can make it work.

Rapid Fire Evil? Nah, I kind of like them though I've been warned that they break easily (still waiting). FWIW I did ride my friend's new Switchblade with Grip Shifts last night. Very nice shifting with the SRAM 9 derailluer. Sweet bike.

Actually, I was referring to the integrated part. But I could just as well have been talking about having shifters period:D For me, if I'm going to use gears, it's friction thumb shifters baby!

Ya gotta love that. Forgot about the single speed evangalist!

Going with a SRAM 9.0 brake and a travel agent, slap it on a 2000 Manitour SRX. The Missus was pestering me for vee brakes this weekend, so I'll upgrade her first to stay on her sweet side....

Always working an angle...:D
